You know except for Joe Thornton, Tyler Seguin, etc...

Okay, I’m wrong. I should’ve said, “that teams do not trade very often.”

I agree with that. Lou can be pretty stubborn on contracts though so I think Barzal has a small chance to get dealt.

Thornton, Richard and Carter were older than Barzal when traded. Seguin was younger. But three of those guys were traded because the teams could no longer keep them in check from their after-hockey activities.

I agree. I could see a Pacioretty trade being a W for the Knights

Crazy proposal du jour:
Gaudreau for Pacioretty and Glass
Edit: NVM I had somehow missed VGK trading Stastny. Makes sense. They are pretty thin at centre now, especially if Glass isn't ready for NHL yet.

They bought super high on Pacioretty though. Tatar has scored more points in the 2 years since the trade and remember the knights gave up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd to get him for 20 games. They also gave up former 1st rounder Suzuki in the deal and the hype machine in Montreal has him as their top C prospect even over Kotkaniemi. They also gave up a 2nd.
I don’t see any way the Knights get more value than what they paid. They are not in a sell high situation especially due to the age of Pacioretty and flat cap.
Basically the Knights gave up what equates to 2 1st, 2 2nd and a 3rd for 20 games of Tatar and 5 seasons of Pacioretty where the last 4 were at a $7M cap hit.
I would love if the Flames could get a trade for Gaudreau and have it work out like the Pacioretty trade has worked out for the Habs

I personally think it doesn't make sense to consider acquisition cost. It's kind of a sunk-cost fallacy. If Vegas can trade Pacioretty and improve their team now and in the future, they should consider it, even if the out column is bigger than the in column

That’s fair. I get that his value is higher this summer than last after getting back to 30 goals but I just do not see a scenario where they make their team better trading him.
Maybe they pull a Schmidt and trade Patches for a 3rd and then sign Hoffman?
Not a lot of teams that want a 32 year old winger making $7M that are going to give up more value than what he is worth to Vegas especially with guys like Hoffman and Granlund unsigned.

My guess is Pacioretty ends up in Nashville. Just a gut feeling and they had opened up cap space to pursue Hall and Pietrangelo (I think) so wouldn't need to send much cap back to Vegas.
The biggest barrier might be the chance that they could be in the same division this year.

Kane and Toews on the block (Per Ek)
If rumors are true, what sort of adder would it take for a Monahan-Toews Swap
Does: Monahan, Ryan, B Prospect get it done? Is it crazy to consider?

I think Toews has stated he doesn't want to leave and I would not want to take on Towes contract

If Kane were actually available, I imagine Buffalo would be a huge player there.

To Chicago:
Lucic
Hanifin
picks
To Calgary:
Jonathan Toews
Then move Backlund in a separate deal?

Hell if we can get Toews while unloading Lucic there is no need to move Backlund. Just roll ultra deep center lines:
Johnny-Toews-Lindy
Tkachuk-Monahan-Mangiapane
Bennett-Backlund-Dube
Personally I would prefer to try and swing at Kane and move Johnny lol.

That would be a dream, I don't see Kane agreeing to a move to Calgary however. The reason I suggested Toews, is being a Winnipeg boy, he might accept to finish his career a quick 2 hour flight from home.

As opposed to the whopping four hours it is now?

Chicago is closer to winnipeg than calgary.
Chicago to Winnipeg: ~1,150 kms vs ~1,200 kms for winni-Calgary.
