How much does it suck?
Have a potential job opportunity but I have never even visited Regina, I am guessing it is pretty boring?
Regina is like small scale version of Edmonton. It feels dirty and industrial. Saskatoon, much like Calgary, is nicer and more pleasant to live in. Regina has a pretty old and ageing population and seems pretty boring.

What is your situation? Single? Married? Married with kids? Are you outdoorsy? I moved here 5 years ago with my wife and 3 young kids and we like it. My wife wasn’t in love at first but now it would be hard to get her to move back to Calgary. Is there anything specific you want to know?

What are you talking about? Lol Saskatoon is the one with DA RIVER VALLEY!!!
But seriously This isn’t far off but I think Regina is coming along. We have new mayor and I think she has some good ideas. Regina, like Edmonton, is a government town.
But the damn Riders Christ I still can’t stand them. I wear my stamps jersey and my neighbour’s still like” oh you’re wearing that thing again?”

Married and probably kids sometime in the next few years.
More just want to know if it is a decent place to live. I think if we went there we would need some kind of lake access somewhere.
Is it a pretty hard place to get any kind of friend group going?
Actually this is the best way to describe it. Toon Town is like a small Calgary, just without skyscrapers.
You have better access to lakes in Sask though, and the 400k you spend on a normal house here will be a ####ing palace in Regina.
Unfortunately that last part is not true. You are not getting anything fancy for 400K here. And you have to be really careful with the ground here and older houses.
I lived there years ago. It was ok, but I was young. Didn't have a lot of different types of bars. There was a shortage of a lot of quality entertainment at the time. That might have changed with the new Stadium. Overall the people there were pretty nice. Just don't live on the East side of town, when I lived there that was the poop hole.

We like it here and my wife and I both grew up in Calgary. Qu’appelle Valley is about 40 minutes away to the north and to the east which are great for fishing and waterskiing. You can look up Echo and Pasqua lake to the East and Regina Beach to the North, those are the closest to town.
Things you might miss:
Zoo, mountains, traffic. There are good restaurants here but not much of a club life not that I’d really know about that.
I’ve had good experiences with the hospitals here if kids are in the future. They have the same problems as Calgary. My wife had cancer a few years back and her care was excellent here and she has fully recovered. You know in case you were planning on that you’re good lol.
Like I mentioned real estate is not that much different than Calgary which I was surprised by as well.
You could definitely be happy here if you wanted to. As for friends I guess we have made friends with all our neighbours and through work mostly. There’s lots of different things to join as well.

Captain, I’ve been reading your posts with great enjoyment for years but now I take exception. I live on the east side and it’s by far the best in town. We have the Costco! And the new theatre!
North Central is the dump, remember.

I was in Regina for one day of my life, thought it looked run down, all I can remember were brick buildings that looked like they had been on fire years ago. Weird to see brick building, after brick building with black marks.
There is actually a 'wrong side of the tracks' in Regina. If I remember correctly, north isn't that nice, and south by the University, or by there bohemian area (can't remember the name of the street) it's pretty nice.
It's windy though. Doesn't really help you much, but some of my best dating experiences were in that town. Laid back people who arn't putting on too many airs.

I am not sure what industry or business your in, but I do think a lot of people discount smaller towns and cities as a way of moving up quickly within an organization.
I was born and raised in Calgary, never lived anywhere else. I have visited Regina many times over the years since my parents lived there for a little while while newly weds and my father has a million friends and fond memories, it was his first home when he came to Canada.
Things I like as a Calgarian
1) Traffic: It's amazing how quickly you get accustomed to running around town and getting pretty much everywhere you really need in a 10 minute drive or less.
2) Strong sense of community for a lot: Being of Greek origin, Regina has a very small and strong community there. I think the same can be said of others from different backgrounds.
3) Great food scene: I know this may get some weird looks but I can tell you that the food scene is actually really good. I will be biased and say that being Greek and having literally dozens of family friends that have a bunch of the long standing places there helps. For a long long time, Regina wasn't the size of city that a lot of the large chains flocked to. The little guy really did thrive here. Lately though I have found the mood has shifted to more of the chain style places. I can't tell you how often people are trying to drag me to Earls and than wait 2 hours for a table.
I haven't ever been in the winter, but in the spring and summer when I have visited the weather has always been really nice and very very warm.
As for work? Nothing wrong with a short term stay to potentially move up in a company .
Either way, good luck and make the most of whatever you decide.

They have a cultural fair there once a year that was absolutely amazing. Each country has a pavilion, and they have food, music and dances particular to their culture. Each place has a signature drink to try, and that was a pleasant eye opener.
