It doesn't make it acceptable to cast people that were raised into specific religions as lesser, stupid, or utterly misled. The core texts/scriptures aside, there are in many cases good principles and community values that are taught and practiced and plenty of good that comes from people of different religions.
There's a reason that evangelicals voted overwhelmingly for Trump. It's not because they are critical thinkers.
When the fundamentals of your religion influence the governance of everybody, it's time for your religion to take a back seat. Specifically religion in the US trying to enshrine into laws:
Anti LBGTQ, rhetoric, and denial of civic rights
Anti choice legislation, to prevent women from making decisions about their own bodies.
The protection of pedophiles as needing to be judged by God rather than the state.
Abject discrimination of any religion that isn't Christian.

Yep, that's where my respect for religion stops. I cringe at the vitriol and demeaning and belittling comments towards religion, but I stop at supporting religion, specifically Christianity when it has power in government and uses that power to influence and spread intolerance and measures over minority and high risk groups.

There are a lot of branches of Christianity. I've gone to a few symposiums with various religions and denominations present, so that I could inform myself, and there are a few large followings that would qualify as bat#### crazy. There are also others which are fairly benign.
Some of the big denominations from the American south/central fall into a certain category. I really couldn't get my mind around some of their beliefs and the reasoning behind them. Or how easy it is to align those beliefs with political choices.
The GOP could be the party of human sacrifice, and not really lose their base.

I guess I owe all those nitwits telling me how Trump was going to be so much better for Canada an apology. I mean if we're gonna get more allocation of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine because of him, then I guess I'll admit they were right.

I think someone told the Orange Moron that Pol Pot killed around 2 million of his own people and Trump is going for the record.

There was one of these for our local Brat/Spanberger debate in 2018. My favorite part is how the audience starts laughing about half way through every time he brings up Pelosi:
There are those who wrap themselves in flags and blow the tinny trumpet of patriotism as a means of fooling the people. -George Galloway

It's pretty crazy that the US is now at over 280,000 deaths due to Covid 19, that's 33% of their total deaths (both military and civilian) from WW2! At their current rate, they might match the total military deaths from WW2.
They are close to having double as many deaths as the next country.
For arguably the most advanced, richest and powerful nation in the world, that is really embarrassing and just reflects so badly on the Trump administration.

If we live through it, that would make us the greatest generation then right?

A worldview that speaks to greater truths that are not easily articulated through simple
Observation of the material world. It provides structure and meaning and a common, communal frame of reference.
The fundamental idea of Christianity, the idea that you must first allow yourself to die to transcend your suffering, endures because it’s true. Because there’s no nobler act than self sacrifice.
Bad religion:
God as a wish granting Genie who exists to justify your appalling, selfish behaviour. Or win a football game. Or whatever.
I don’t know what God is, but it’s not that.

Good religion or bad religion
It is a con, that picks on the weakest.

Where are you getting your numbers from? This site has total US Civilian & Military deaths as 418,500.
280,000 is 67% of that number.
The numbers at worldometer.com are slightly worse: 290,443 deaths in the US. If worldometer is correct, based on the current (rising) 7-day average (2,262/day) deaths, the US will surpass the number of WWII deaths on Wednesday, February 3rd.

I don't want to derail this thread more than it already has but I NEED to point out the following:
Just because you call yourself a Christian/Muslim/Jew/Buddist/etc doesn't necessarily make you one.
If you don't believe in helping your neighbour regardless of their race or beliefs; if you don't believe in feeding the poor, or healing the sick; if you believe in money over people then it doesn't matter if you say "I love Jesus" or "I'm a Christian"... you're not Christian.
In the same vein that you can call yourself a Calgary Flames fan all you want, but if you're wearing an Oilers Jersey, cheer for Edmonton to win the division, and your favourite player is Darnell Nurse, then you're not actually a Flames fan.
