Alberta eliminating licence plate stickers in the New Year
It's about time: https://calgaryherald.com/news/local...late-stickers/
Quote:
The provincial government announced Monday, that starting in January, it will no longer be issuing expiration stickers for licence plates, permanent trailers and fleet vehicles. Instead, it will be move in the fall of next year towards issuing reflective plates that are easily scanned by automated readers.
|
Every year, I get annoyed by this, so it's nice to see the province is finally scrapping the stickers.

The worst was when you acciedntaly tore a little section, and it would progressively fall apart in your hand. Must..puzzle...together!

Some clarifications from the Minister of Service Alberta. The current design of the plates will not be changing and there is no requirement to change your current plates. New plates will only be issued when they would normally be issued...

They could also save money by not sending us a registration slip every year. Don't they just get punched into a computer anyway? Give us one, that's all we need.

Glad that there's no mention of requiring front plates either.

About time. Given it is the year 2020 this is long overdue. I mean putting a sticker as a proof of payment for you registration is ridiculous. Next up, insurance papers and digital drivers license please and thank you.

That has not happened for several years now. You’re on your own for remembering.

I wonder if you can keep your plate number? I've got a personalized plate, and if I have to give that up solely to transition to different kind of plate, I'd not be impressed.

Oh sure....my registration was up in November and I just re-upped to 2022.
Thanks a ton!
Thieves! The entire lot of them!

You can set up a yearly e-mail reminder through your MyAlberta eServices account. Marda Loop Registries will also e-mail you a reminder if you ask.

They don't send you a reminder slip, but they do send you registration paper when you renew.

But that doesn't quite answer the question. What if I want a new reflective plate? I think it's a great idea. I'd love to do that and not have to worry about stickers every year (or some jagoff, peeling the sticker off, twice...) but I don't want to 'lose' my personalized plate.

Nope the worst was having the sticker fall off at some point in the first day or so (my fault for putting it on a slightly wet plate) and then having to pay in full again.

They charged full price for a sticker? I thought you could get a replacement for a nominal fee?

Like I said...my last name makes me a November registrant.
"Put the sticker on a clean, dry license plate."
Oh yeah....and where am I going to manage that in November in Calgary unless I get really lucky with the weather?

The Registry Office. You'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

This place lists the year one at $28. No mention on the month. But $28 seems pretty steep.
