I guess he's been in the US since early 2013, so he could be a citizen by now. But I wonder what he did in the beginning.

If it was a female customs and immigration agent, he probably just smiled at her when asking to remain in the USA.

If it was male, he just flexed and snarled.

Would you say no to Mr Big Tree in either of those scenarios?

But also yes, he's half American haha.

Side story: you know when you go to a business that is collecting donations for charity and they give you a piece of paper to write your name on? I mostly think of Tim’s, but I know I have participated in something similar at a few other places. Anyway, any time I’ve ever contributed to something like that I have signed the paper “Jarome Iginla”. I’ve done this all over the place, with this exact story in mind. That he’s just your neighbourhood friendly Iggy.

I bet his kids loved it the most. They go from a scenario where everyone knows who their dad is, has strong opinions on him and the team to just being another rich crowd in one of the great american cities.

I remember Gretzky said that being a nobody in LA was the most liberating feeling in his life.

When you have money and own property there are loopholes, since he had a work visa he likely just adjusted his status for permanent residence. He probably is listed as a coach at his kid(s) school.

There's also a similar video of Klay Thompson being interviewed in NYC about a construction accident.

The newsroom figured it out in time to add the captions and intro but the reporter on the street didn't know who he was.

Iginla's mother is from Oregon originally.

Dual Citizen perhaps?

I can't find a clip of it online, but I remember when they were shooting season one of Fargo, Global Calgary did a "man on the street" interview about it with Bob Odenkirk where the reporter was oblivious to the fact that he was talking about the show with one of the stars of the show.

The more examples I hear about and see the more I think this may just be a social media age viral thing where the reporter and station does know and is in on the joke to get hits online.

Sounds like Iggy might be planning on moving back west next year when his kids are done hockey. I wonder if he settles in Kelowna, or does he continue to stay in the States. I selfishly hope he comes to Calgary (convince him Connie!), but I doubt it.

I don't think I'd recognize 95% of professional athletes on the street, and the 5% would mostly be hockey players. I think it's cool they play along.

I do that with my Amazon deliveries. When checking out you can write a message to the recipient. I always write "To xxx, enjoy the gift! From : Jarome Iginla".

Feels like Iggy is sending me gifts everytime I order something .

I'm sure the people doing my delivery think I'm so cool because Iggy is constantly sending me gifts.

Haha -- that interview was hilarious.

For those who didn't catch it, Iggy appeared on Toronto radio with Noodles (Jamie McLennan) and a couple of other guys. Even if you can just listen for the first 5-7 minutes, they talked about Iggy's head shape, driving like an old man, not wearing a mask (or a hat), amongst other things. Great stuff.
