I wonder what the split is between PS5 owners for the disc version vs digital. I went with digital for the price difference and the fact that I haven't bought a physical game for any platform in several years, wondering if I'm in the minority now

I was leaning towards the digital version when they made the announcements for the two models but when game prices started to get revealed I switched over to the disc version. $79.99 to $89.99 (or maybe more??) for digital games is a bit too steep for me. With re-selling at least you can get $20-$50 back or something. It'd be different if there were more sales and deals a la Steam but prices for console games are expensive.

Got an Xbox Series X this week and gave it to the kid today for his birthday. Tried to set it up but I can't seem to get it set up on my wifi network which is using the Shaw Blue Curve modem. I have it plugged in with an ethernet cable and it is fine but wifi doesn't seem to work. For anyone with a new Xbox and Shaw Blue Curve do you have any suggestions?

I don't think you can with Blue Curve. I don't believe they have a bridge mode for the modem.
Edit: nvm bridge mode is available for the modem now. It wasn't previously.

I trade in at EB so I get a lot of store credit. For me to switch to digital the price would have to be lower.

Only if you have to buy all your games at release. Just by waiting a few months after release you can find many triple-A games for half price on the Playstation store, you never see that kind of price reduction at physical retailers, even for pre-owned. And if you do buy games day 1, digital means you just hit a download button instead of driving to a store or waiting for shipping. Then when you consider never having swap discs when you want to change games, not having to worry about losing or breaking discs (as a parent of 2 young kids this is huge), and always having an on-demand library of all your games when a replay itch strikes, digital just offers way to much convenience for me to ever consider going back to buying physical copies

Also, keep in mind games are never ready when they ship. Therefore, the first thing you have to do with a disc game is to download an update which is pretty much equivalent to the full size of the game.

I do mostly digital but its nice to have the option and will pay for itself over the life of the console pretty easily. One big one for me is getting games from the library...free rentals!

Going to throw this in here - was unable to cancel the order for a 2nd copy of Demon's Souls - if anyone would like one, I am willing to sell it for $90 (save the GST) to get my money back.
Copy will be here by Dec 14. If no interest, I will go through the amazon return process.

Was able to fire up my PS5 for the first time last night (was out of town). My initial impressions:
- Snappy menu and load times- so much better to use
- New UI will take some getting used to, but seems solid
- This machine is tank. I think I like it though?
- Dualsense is a game changer. Those triggers are so cool.

I love when firing a gun in Call of Duty it actually feels like you’re pulling a trigger and the triggers get harder to push the heavier the gun. It might annoy the higher end players, I don’t know, but for people like myself who are average at the game it’s really cool.

It is good/ok in the campaign. I just turn it off on multiplayer/warzone.

Why? I love it in multi-player gives a really immersive feel especially when hot swapping. But great to hear you are playing it on the PS5!

It's a good thing the disc console can also do digital then too...
The $100 initial savings is definitely not worth limiting your options that much.

I guess consumer protection laws don't exist for this? At least I can trust our lawmakers to curb it and the companies themselves to take action lol. Just like how they stopped ticketmaster from directly profiting off of it, which is the next logical step for the console makers.
Yay "capitalism"!!

CrepChiefNotify is a company comprising thousands of paid members, which is based in the UK but recently launched in the US. It is said to utilise bot software to circumvent online retail queues and automatically purchase consoles as they come in stock.
The group recently rose to prominence after it boasted that its members had obtained some 3,500 PS5 consoles to resell for profit. On Sunday, CrepChiefNotify claimed that it’s now managed to obtain a significant amount of Xbox Series X consoles from an unnamed retailer [UPDATE: Speaking anonymously, one member claimed the retailer was UK firm Very].

I’m not surprised. Bots are used to circumvent all kinds of things and now it’s in demand products. I’m surprised that they advertised it tbh!

Yeah apparently the group used bots they had set up for sneaker purchases and adapted them for game consoles. Looks like most of that activity is UK based though it wouldn't surprise me to see it happening in Canada/US on the next restocks. I think the retailers need to come up with a better system for ordering though I'm not sure what they should do.

It's tough, I read on some of what they do, and they still enlist regular people to perform the snipe and purchase.
Even if you
- Limit to 1
- Billing address matches shipping address
It won't stop what they are doing when they enlist a large of number of people to snipe for them.
To stop the sniping, I think you could do a lottery system, but that has pitfalls as well if the scalpers just overwhelm the lottery system to give them the highest odds by sheer numbers. .
