The 2.4L engine will have to at the very least deliver more urgency than the 2.0L. I really like these cars but the 2.0L engine would have felt weak 20 years ago. It doesn't need to be a drag queen but there needs to be a better sensation of speed when you step on it. In a perfect world Toyota would have designed and built the engines as it's just not Subaru's strong point which is low cost AWD.

That BRZ looks like an homage to the 2002 Hyundai Tiburon.

Alright guys... I want some advice on how to go about something. Inspired by the recent Grand Tour trailer and Clarkson's bentley... I want to safari my S4 Avant.

I've honestly thought about this in the past, and almost bought a 996 C4S for the purpose. I've always wanted to take a more normal car and beef it up. And I'm in a situation where I've been wanting to replace the suspension on my Avant for a little while, so I think I'm prepared to just go the extra mile and get the bigger wheels, tires, some fender flares for the bigger tires, light bars, etc. And I'll probably end up spending a bunch of money, but it'll be worth it. The car already has pretty beefy SUV brakes on it.

Any ideas on who to talk to to get this done? I'm going to e-mail one guy later today who I think might have some good info.

Not that it'd be quite this extreme, but...

... you get the idea.

Wow, I'm going to have to mull that one over. And you promise you're not joking around? I kind of think you may be, but I don't want to dismiss this if you're serious.

I'm actually not joking. Like right now the other option is to get a bilstein pss9 suspension kit installed and deal with the paint scraped off my fenders and associated rust. But even that is a whole lot of money, and the end result isn't all that different from the current iteration of the car.

I'll certainly talk to people who know what they're doing before doing it, but like I say, I have to do the suspension anyway and if that alone is going to cost me thousands, not to mention the body work I need to do, I might as well actually go for broke (literally) and turn the car into something epic, if I can.

First, because I already own this car. And second, because this car is a manual transmission V8.

Besides, you'd still have to do more or less the same stuff to make an allroad into that, and you'd just end up with a weaker version.

Ahh, a manual purist. That I can appreciate. Do keep an eye on those chain guides.

What about an Air Suspension? Is this strictly a winter vehicle?

I owned a 1GB Talon TSI AWD and a 2GB Eclipse GST. Those were some of my fondest memories modding cars. Using prehistoric stuff like APEXi SAFC2 with a pocketlogger to tune the old 4G63 with EVO III 16G on the Talon and FP Green on the Eclipse.

Never had CW issues with either of my 4G63T engines and they took a beating.

It's mostly a winter vehicle, or would be if I did this. If I just stay boring and get the coilovers it'll still be a year-round car, but in the summer I'd almost always rather just drive my summer car.

Air suspension would be fine but I don't really see much of a benefit to that in terms of my driving experience.
