I posted this in the old American Politics thread:

If Trump loses do people expect that a Biden DOJ will launch/advance/re-open any investigations into Trump?
I guess I'm wondering if Biden will do what Obama was precieved to do did when he did not go after Bush administration
Quote:
In January 2009, George W. Bush left office with an abysmal 22 percent approval rating, the lowest ever recorded. Almost everyone with anything to do with his administration was considered politically toxic.
With full Democratic control of the federal government, calls came for an investigation into the scandals of the Bush administration, including torture, mass surveillance, and war profiteering. While some called for criminal prosecutions, others wanted hearings or an independent investigation that would — at minimum — put into the public record the details of who did what and when. At the least, the argument went, Democrats could ensure that the GOP had to wear the Bush administration for years; that the officials involved in wrongdoing would be written out of polite society; and that future administrations would not revert to those practices.
What does 'rule of law' mean when it's not consistently applied?
Well according to this he’ll follow the tradition. I understand there is SDNY etc etc

Biden hopes to avoid divisive Trump investigations, preferring unity
Biden has told aides that he's concerned that investigations would divide the country but that he would leave decisions up to an independent Justice Department.
Ari Melber had a great segment on this on his show today. Essentially he said the judiciary should be left alone in either direction ie don’t say lock her up AND don’t say move on we need unity. Totally agree. Let the professionals follow the facts and make their determinations one way or other.
You guys still going on about this? The US is nothing like Germany in the 30s, furthermore Italy was nothing like Germany at that time. The NAZIs were already killing disabled citizens in the mid 30s and It was a homicidal regime from the beginning.
Of course the Soviets were even worse, they started mass killings in 1932 in the Ukraine, Stalin saw famine as a counter revolutionary activity, so he made it even worse.

First off... Kind of a non-sequiter there.
Secondly, uh, congrats on a very sophisticated historical argument, I guess.

Well in Trump's defense he may just be a cheap shysty **** trying to keep as much of the donated money for himself as any half competent grifter would do, he may just be a thief.
This is very similar to what those GOP scumbags were trying to do in Michigan the other night. These people are beyond despicable. This recount is yet another dumb and futile attempt by team Trump. All it's gonna do is reaffirm Biden's win...same as in Georgia.
Since Friday morning, thousands of workers across the state have counted each ballot to ensure that President-elect Joe Biden did narrowly defeat President Trump in the Nov. 3 contest in Georgia.
While the risk-limiting audit is designed to check the correct winner and not change the margins, four counties uncovered a few thousand votes that were not originally uploaded to the state's election results. Those votes narrowly cut into Biden's margin but are not nearly enough to reverse Biden's lead.
Quote:
As of 4 p.m. ET Wednesday, 5 million ballots had been hand-counted, and the secretary of state's office says the process will finish on time.
The results of the risk-limiting audit and all of the accompanying documents will be posted publicly and will not alter the county-certified totals. State officials said that since the audit is designed to check winners and not margins, the original vote totals showing Biden ahead will stand.
A handful of current Trump administration officials, as well as some political appointees who left in recent months, have quietly started to reach out to members of President-elect Joe Biden's transition team, according to people briefed on the matter.
One former Trump official told CNN they're viewing the outreach effort as putting duty to the country over partisan considerations. The conversations are not as detailed as formal briefings that would take place under the officially sanctioned transition, sources said, but they at least could help incoming Biden transition members have a sense of the issues they might have to deal with upon taking office.
Another former White House official who left the administration a few months ago said that he personally emailed someone who he expects will be back in the Biden administration in a similar role to his and offered to help.
One current administration official confirmed to CNN on Wednesday that there has been informal outreach from inside Trump's government to Biden's team. "Nothing that would get us in trouble," the official said. "Just an offer to be of help. They know what we mean, and what we can-and-can't do or say."
Quote:
A senior adviser to Biden acknowledged the outreach from across the government, but declined to comment. A separate Biden aide said the assistance was appreciated and in several cases was an outgrowth of pre-existing relationships in specific fields, but noted that it was not nearly as robust as a traditional transition of power.
Did you not see the furor over the Texas governor reducing the number of polling stations before voting day? It just so happens that the most affected areas were minority populations, I'm sure that was just a coincidence though
Also take a look at voter ID regulations that the Republicans have been pushing hard for years now, which make it more difficult to vote in poorer areas which are again mostly minority populations. That's not even taking into account taking time off to actually vote, easy to do as a white collar worker, but vastly more difficult if you're juggling multiple minimum wage jobs that won't give you time off to go vote
Is there some data to support that areas in Texas with largest percentage of minority populations had less access to early voting? Advance polls in Houston were open for weeks. They were plentiful and at least one extremely large centrally located polling station was open 24 hours.
After reading New Era's posts, all I can say is... I don't know what is more disturbing... the extent to which the system is rigged in favor of the wealthy/privileged/well-connected and against the will of the people, or the fact that a huge portion of the American electorate (likely a majority) doesn't even have a partial understanding of the true breadth and depth of the problem.

Thanks that was interesting. Looks like in Chicago if anybody was cheating, it was Trump, which should surprise nobody.
New Era has alluded to this but you can’t help but wonder if the reason some of the GOP are fighting this so hard and especially going after mail in ballots might be because the Republicans has probably spent years trying to rig the election with voting machines, where the voting record can be manipulated and there’s no actual evidence of the original vote intention, versus mail in ballots which haves paper trail. Why else fight so hard against them? They had their thumb on the scales but they couldn’t cheat with the paper trail of those physical ballots.
