Trump appointed a quack who believes in the gold standard to the fed. GOP Senate poised to let it through for partisan reasons, breaking a long-standing tradition of the fed being apolitical.
Burn it all down I guess.

It shouldn't be lost on what Trump is trying to do, despite how utterly ridiculously inept he is at trying to do it.
President Donald J. Trump is attempting to install authoritarianism in the oldest democracy in the western world. And President Donald J. Trump is trying to do this all because he is a megalomaniac facing his worst fears.
Lest we forget.

For such a buffoon, he got very close to breaking the USA and taking it for himself and the story isn’t over yet. He may still get there.
Think about that for a second.

I have always pushed back when the word “treason” has been thrown around in the past. Treason is the ONLY crime that is actually described in the Constitution itself, the bar for treason is incredibly high.
You need, essentially, a group of people with weapons actively on their way to do violence in order to overthrow the government, OR, to have a declared state of war, and therefore an enemy state with whom to collaborate.
I feel every day there is a more and more legitimate case for treason against a large swath of republican legislators.
I am also curious if there could be wrongful death lawsuits brought against these same legislators in the months after the inauguration if it can be clearly demonstrated the delay in transition delayed the delivery of vaccines.
I doubt either of these will come to pass, but this is the most treasony thing that’s ever happened in my lifetime.

To me this has been a sad realization of how fragile democracy can be. Trump is an ignorant, corrupt buffoon who surrounds himself with know-nothing, grifter sycophants. And yet they've managed to not only win one election, not only govern for 4 years, not only manage to escape impeachment (more or less), not only come relatively close to winning re-election but also have managed to cast doubt in the electoral system among tens of millions of Americans and in the process possibly permanently damage democratic protocols previously thought of as American sacred cows. They have created a blueprint for authoritarianism in America. Just imagine if the next group is equally as corrupt as Trumps but are actually competent. Scary.
The upside is that Trump has exposed the gaps in the system. Hopefully the Biden administration can now codify the more substantial norms into laws so that this can be prevented in the future. He likely won't be able to do so without the Senate however. I'm not sure if he even has the balls to try or if he'll shrug it off as a one-off due to Trump and go back to business as usual.

Yet the very foundation of the US was an act of treason and the 2nd amendment exists to enable such treason.

It's only a hoax in the US, obviously.

Was just gonna post something similar. I'm confident that Trump's attempt to stage a coup will ultimately fail simply because he and his cronies are such inept morons. Not to mention the fact that he obviously never wanted the job in the first place and has no real interest in governing.
But sadly, because of Trump's dangerously insane rhetoric and the GOP's willingness to go along with it and stroke his ego, the MAGA cult won't be going anywhere anytime soon. They might crawl back under their rocks for a while over the next 4 years, but all it takes is someone to come along who is much smarter and more competent than Trump to whip them back up into a frenzy and finally turn the U.S. into the authoritarian hellscape that evil dirtbags like Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller have wet dreams about.
I'm worried about what we might see in 2024. Will moderate/sane Republicans be able wrestle back control of the party over the next 4 years, or will Trumpism continue to fester, resulting in a more intelligent, competent and more frightening version of Trump becoming the nominee? It's a scary thought.

You won't have to wait until 2024. If the Democrats couldn't slam dunk this election, they're going to get dominated in 2022.

The US is far from being the oldest democracy in the western hemisphere, that is just their typical claims to being #1. Greece(Athenian) was a democracy long before the US even existed...

I hate the man like I have never hated another human so don’t mistake me for a supporter. Are you denying how close he is to breaking the democracy?
For such an idiot, he surely is doing something no one ever imagined possible.
