I don’t think it has either.
They had one chance to fix things when Chia came in.
As Treliving states... you get one chance to develop a player.
One.
If they actually cleaned house and brought in competent management in 2015 they could have used the previous #1 picks to acquire competent veterans to work in concert with Mclelland and reset the culture by keeping McDavid and Draisatl away from the party boys.
They didn’t.
They both learned how to be NHLers at the feet of Eberle, Hall, & Nugent-Hopkins.
Even worse was they had early success buoyed by Cam Talbot’s goaltending.
Now, 5 years later they’re rapidly trending towards becoming “they are what they are.” Atrociously horrible defensively and elite offensively.
If a Flames fan was told they had to give the Oilers four #1 picks, one was McDavid along with another 6 top 10 picks, this level of failure would be hard to conceptualize.
But in true Oiler fashion, they did it!!
