Yeah I perversely started following don, don jr, rudy and eric. The don jr stuff is insane, even for twitter. One of my favs was that '72 million pissed of republicans and not one city burned to the ground'. ??? It's like he's playing 'trains' in his basement.

I'm not going to check out parler.. lol

Once this is over I'm obviously unsubscribing. It's just for research porpoises.

In the last 50 years, McGovern's 37.5% in 1972 and Bush's 37.4% in 1992 are the lowest percentages of the popular vote received by the two parties' candidates.

In today's environment, 45% is probably the low mark for either party. Right now, Trump is at 47.3%.

In fairness to Bush, Perot took 19% of the vote. Perot likely took a big bite out of what Bush would have recieved.

Make you wonder what this election would have looked like if there was a strong (for a) third party candidate from the right (or at all).

Imagine if Bloomberg just ran as an independent/third party.

The drawback of the US system is that it's binary. Status Quo or Commuisim? Fascism or America?

More lawsuits dropped in 4 states this morning.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/16/polit...gia/index.html

Quote:
Voters in four states who had brought longshot lawsuits to disrupt President-elect Joe Biden's win and went nowhere in court dropped their cases Monday morning. The cases were short-lived in Georgia, Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania federal courts, and fed into a pro-Donald Trump legal strategy that's almost certain to fail to block Biden's presidential win before the Electoral College formalized it.

The suits mirrored one another and were all backed by the law firm of a nationally known conservative attorney, James Bopp Jr. In Michigan and Pennsylvania, the cases had also gone hand in hand with ones brought by the Trump campaign.
Quote:
The announcement that the voters are dropping their suits comes three days after a federal appellate court said voters couldn't bring some constitutional claims, essentially shutting down the path the Pennsylvania voters wanted to take in their suit.

I caught up on this thread today. I was 50 pages behind! We had our 3rd kid on the 2nd, so I have been out from work and thats my prime CP time! My wife and I both managed to vote in person on election day (her <30 hours after giving birth) even though our Biden votes are useless here in OK. I admit, I lost faith in Biden on election night as the early returns were mediocre and Florida went to Trump. It felt like 2016 all over. I just remember Chuck Todd going on and on in 16 about how votes from specific counties were going to come in and save Clinton that I felt like it was a giant rerun.

I am glad Biden won. I am worried that Trump will not leave. There are still so many Trump parades and flags everywhere. These people do not want to give up. I had a childhood friend from home in rural Illinois that was whining on facebook about how scared they were of a Biden presidency. I asked if they were afraid democrats would try and start giving people healthcare again and got defriended. I still just don't think this country can heal from this.

Not getting the senate was a huge loss for dems. It is so disheartening that people like Graham and Collins will still be there. McConnell will continue to block anything of significance if the dems cant pull out both Georgia races. And that means another wasted 2 years for this country.

Speaking of Parler, all our Canadian Cons, particularly the more ####oo ones, are migrating over to it - some (or perhaps most, I didn't look too hard) of the provincial (UCP) and a lot of the federal nuts. Brock Harrison calls it "freedom."

Apparently, there are 22 GOP senators that have already said they won't vote for any Democratic bill. Losers all!!

I think you spelled “####oo” wrong.

With any luck, they will stay on parler and not spam every social media site.

edit: okay, I guess we now use “kookoo”?

in the interview, raffensperger also said he spoke on friday to graham, the chairman of the senate judiciary committee, who has echoed trump’s unfounded claims about voting irregularities.
In their conversation, graham questioned raffensperger about the state’s signature-matching law and whether political bias could have prompted poll workers to accept ballots with nonmatching signatures, according to raffensperger. Graham also asked whether raffensperger had the power to toss all mail ballots in counties found to have higher rates of nonmatching signatures, raffensperger said.
Raffensperger said he was stunned that graham appeared to suggest that he find a way to toss legally cast ballots. Absent court intervention, raffensperger doesn’t have the power to do what graham suggested, as counties administer elections in georgia.
“it sure looked like he was wanting to go down that road,” raffensperger said.

Georgia's Republican Secretary of State says he's being pressured by Trump cronies like Lindsey Graham to find ways to throw out legal ballots.

**Edit: MissTeeks beat me to the punch. I'll leave this here anyway:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/polit...5c0_story.html

Quote:
In a wide-ranging interview about the election, Raffensperger expressed exasperation over a string of baseless allegations coming from Trump and his allies about the integrity of the Georgia results, including claims that Dominion Voting Systems, the Colorado-based manufacturer of Georgia’s voting machines, is a “leftist” company with ties to Venezuela that engineered thousands of Trump votes not to be counted.

The atmosphere has grown so contentious, Raffensperger said, that both he and his wife, Tricia, have received death threats in recent days, including a text to him that read: “You better not botch this recount. Your life depends on it.”

“Other than getting you angry, it’s also very disillusioning,” Raffensperger said of the threats, “particularly when it comes from people on my side of the aisle. Everyone that is working on this needs to elevate their speech. We need to be thoughtful and careful about what we say.” He said he reported the threats to state authorities.
Quote:
The normally mild-mannered Raffensperger saved his harshest language for Rep. Douglas A. Collins (R-Ga.), who is leading the president’s effort to prove fraud in Georgia and whom Raffensperger called a “liar” and a “charlatan.”
Quote:
The recount, Raffensperger said in the interview Monday, will “affirm” the results of the initial count. He said the hand-counted audit that began last week will also prove the accuracy of the Dominion machines; some counties have already reported that their hand recounts exactly match the machine tallies previously reported.
Quote:
In the interview, Raffensperger also said he spoke on Friday to Graham, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, who has echoed Trump’s unfounded claims about voting irregularities.

In their conversation, Graham questioned Raffensperger about the state’s signature-matching law and whether political bias could have prompted poll workers to accept ballots with nonmatching signatures, according to Raffensperger. Never have we seen sore losers go to such depths anywhere in the world, ever! *accordian hands* Just tremendous soreness! You've never seen soreness like this! The greatest, bigliest rates of soreness anywhere.

But seriously is that Graham character a waste of space or what. Is that not infringing on some law? Surely it must be.

Trump's coalition of enablers is slowly starting to crumble.

Quote:
White House national security adviser Robert C. O’Brien said former vice president Joe Biden appears to have won the 2020 presidential election and pledged to oversee a “very professional transition” on the National Security Council to the new administration once he is determined to be the winner.

O’Brien’s comments came with a caveat but appeared to mark one of the first public admissions of defeat from President Trump’s inner circle.
Quote:
“If the Biden-Harris ticket is determined to be the winner, and obviously things look that way now, we’ll have a very professional transition from the National Security Council. There’s no question about it,” O’Brien said at the Global Security Forum

Him resigning would require his voters to not like this, but this is exactly what they want.
