PS5 vs. Switch vs. XBOXSX - THUNDERDOME Version 2.0

My PS5 is literally minutes away from my house but I won't be getting it till Monday. This sucks, I wish I could just go to the post office and pick it up.

So of course my Series S arrived roughly 30 seconds before I was leaving for a few nights away on Thursday afternoon. Finally got a chance to get it up and running this afternoon.

My last console was an xbox 360, which remained pretty dormant the last 5-7 years. I’d play Skate 2 or GTA 4 a few times a year, but haven’t even had an xbox live subscription for at least 5 years.

Bundling EA Play with Gamepass is just perfect for me, I can catch up on a few dozen games/series I’ve missed out on (Gears of War, Forza, Halo 4+) during this gap, and I don’t have shell out $70 for NHL 20 as I would have in the past?

As for the resolution, I actually have a 4K TV, and I know there’s been a lot of handwringing on if it’s “true 4K” on the Series S... saying this as some one who’s closer to 40 than 20, and sitting across the room from a 48” screen... I can’t see a difference enough to worry about.

I’ve never played Gears of War, tonight I spun up Gears 5 and I tell ya, it’s next gen for me jumping from 2 generations behind.

So on PS5 with PS+ you get a bunch of games (listed below) I realized though when I redeemed them on my PS5 they now work on my PS4. Must be redeemed on a PS5 though. For those that are waiting to jump to PS5 you could login on a friends PS5, redeem, logout...then have access to all the games on your PS4.

Ah ok, that makes sense as well. But too be clear, I never said it was incapable of 120fps. I said it did not support VRR. People playing uncapped framerate versions of games on series X with a VRR enabled monitor/tv will get a cleaner experience. So I could foresee instances where games that run in the unstable 100 to 120fps range are uncapped on Xbox one but capped on the PS5 so that users get better experience. But who knows, that's just my opinion ..I hate screen tearing so definitely still be playing third party titles in the series x.

Playing Cold War with some PS5 friends on PC and the built in mic on the PS5 controllers are amazing. Clear sound no background noise i'm looking forward to clearly hear the kids tell me what they did with my mother.

I don't blame the retailers. In fact most of them do their best by limiting quantities to one. I blame the people that are willing to pay those prices. Consumers are weak and have no patience so this is what happens.

I place some blame on Kijiji and eBay. Kijiji doesn't seem to give a crap about price gouging, and eBay claims it's against their policies but the option to report price gouging on eBay doesn't appear to exist on eBay.ca, and the Report Item function on eBay.com doesn't work.

I hate scalping and even when I've had the opporunity to do it haven't sold at that value. But really the issue is on the consumer - nobody is forcing anybody to pay these prices.

This isn't a concert or sporting event that has limited seats and is a one time only thing.

It's a console, and in 6-8 months they will probably be easily available on shelves. People who are paying $1000 plus right now only have themselves to blame.


Separately: Anybody with a PS5 from Bestbuy get an out for delivery notice today? My PS5 has been in Calgary since Friday night, but still haven't seen an out for delivery from CP this morning

My buddy with the physical disc version of the PS5 got an out for delivery. Other friend and myself with the digital only version don't have that update.

Or the person you sell to at cost just turns around and lists it on ebay/kijiji.

If that console is getting scalped, it may as well be me making the money.*
