That second point of the night was a great heads up play. And again, against their local rival Tappara, Juus is loose.

2 things immediately evident to me:

1. Juuso uses his slapshot way more effectively than anyone currently on our roster.
2. The FEL has already noticed this, look how much room they were giving him while trying to block the shot coming. Juuso also saw this, and the second point he capitalized on this by subtly faking the shot and going for a side of net pass/deflection

Both of these are NHL level scoring plays.

I was able to see the last two periods. Not too shiny from Juuso, and he actually was -2. But he's calm and confident, and his base level is good enough in FEL. Got a penalty too, which was a bit weird call.

Sounds like the opposite of house elves. Instead of cleaning and cooking, they crawl out of the cupboard at night to eat your food, smoke your weed and put a whole bunch of garbage shows on your Netflix history.

I'm just afraid Valimaki is not going to roll off the tongue of any North American PBP guy/gal with the same panache as the Finnish PBP guys.

wasn't Karlsson at like 1.1 ppg?

Is NHLe just a straight line correlation?

I’m coming around to the idea that NHLe is borderline useless.

Any idea what Valimaki is getting paid to play in Finland? Are the Flames paying his full salary? He would be getting paid 70K to play in the AHL.

according to this site the salary range of the FINLAND LIIGA is 30,000 – 125,000 Euro Tax Free

If the NHL season is cancelled would Valimaki burn off his last year of ELC by playing in Finland?

That's a good question, and as I read CBA info provided by CapFriendly players who signed @ 18 yrs are eligible to have their ELCs slide for two years. However, because Valimaki was born in October this condition does not apply. So, yes, I think he would be a RFA after this year if he spends the season in Finland. Having said that, because he is a 10.2c RFA, he is ineligible for arbitration and exempt from offer sheets. Without the benefit of a NHL season played this year, Valimaki's extension would most likely be very affordable.

That's not quite accurate.

It's not tax free, although the amount of tax you pay depends on a lot of things.

The top salaries last season were above 200k based on public tax records, , and since the public tax records only show the part you pay taxes on, the actual top salaries were above 300k.

(An athlete can put up to €100k per year (or up to 50% of their salary, which ever is less) into a personal fund and skip paying taxes for that money until the year they draw it out. The top paid players are probably putting max amounts into their funds, which is why their actual salaries are that €100k more than what you can see in the papers.)

Average Liiga salary is around €75k and median salary is about €55k. They've been the same for a few years now.

Välimäki just scored his third of the season. Nice wrist shot from the point off the post and in.

Pretty remarkable.

Valimaki leads all Liiga D in scoring and plus/minus and 5th most minutes played per game.

I'm just happy to see a d-man that can shoot that nice low hard along the ice shot that's great for tips.

Feel like our d-men were always looking for top corners and tougher to tip those.
