I think it's freaking awesome you're still chomping at the bit for a console launch, and building a beast gaming rig.
I hope I don't lose the love of games.

Thoughts on Series X
- Storage is fast.
- Moving games from the internal storage to the (proprietary) 1TB expansion storage is amazingly fast. Absolutely ridiculous.
- It feels very much like owning a One X. Microsoft has been working on the UI for months on the One X, and it is the same here as it was there.
- Dirt 5 is a lot of fun, I'm not overly blown away by the visual experience.
- Watch Dogs Legions shows a clear upgrade. Ray tracing is trippy, but it's also something you adapt to right away and it's such a cool add but you begin to take it for granted almost immediately.
- The controller is very familiar. The minor adjustments to the shell at the top makes the bumpers feel a good deal better.
- The Shock Blue controller is beautiful in person
- KOTOR 2 looks fantastic. The Auto-HDR/whatever other processing they're doing on it makes it pop. I'm finally going to play through KOTOR 2!
- This platform seems very much like a culmination of all the xbox platforms rolled into one. I definitely love Microsoft's approach to backwards compatibility.

^ Are you playing in 4K?
One thing I’m wondering this gen is how big the visual upgrade going to be if you’re still playing in 1080p only.

Yeah, I've got a 48" LG CX - so 4K + 120hz where possible.
The quality of life improvements are significant (load times, responsiveness of the system interface). Hard to say if I'd recommend a Series X for a 1080P display - I imagine that's really where the Series S probably enters the conversation and proves itself as a solid console.

This is basically my only hang up in buying one. My TV is 6-7 years old and I can't see it being worth it until I upgrade.

No, the S is also poorer graphical power than the X as well. At least I think so. I don't know anymore with their stupid naming.

Yep, no discs, smaller hard drive, less powerful...IMO get the X and you will be happy in the long run

Oops. I'm an idiot. I'll get rid of the link.

Yep, this. Basically no online shipping in Western Canada arrived for launch day, and probably not for tomorrow either. I would’ve loved an in store pick-up option from Best Buy. They should feel embarrassed that all their customers are waiting til next week while people who ordered from smaller time operations like The Source or Shoppers have their consoles now. I won’t forget.

Haven't quite crossed the dreaded 50 line yet but getting pretty close.
Yeah I don't think I'll ever lose the love of games, I certainly don't play as much as I used to, and I find myself only playing through half of a game before losing interest more than I used to, but the very best games still grab me for weeks or months.
I don't know many people my age in real life that are as nerdy as me.

I am. Even at middle age I still like a lot of things I liked when young.

Guess I don't get a PS5 this year. Wonder when retailers will actually have stock, really hope it's not like the Switch was at launch

PS4 pre-orders were so much better than this. I remember just strolling into EB Games and putting a deposit on a console one day, then on launch day I went in after work and picked it up with no problems. Did COVID just #### up the supply? Or is demand way up this time? Or both?

I would assume both. Production lags have been rumoured for a while, and everybody is staring down the barrel of a cold, covidy winter. This is a rare thing to look forward to in a trash year where every day has felt very similar.
Update: my Best Buy order left BC this evening. Not the fastest process but at least it’s going in the right direction.

Apparently the market for nostalgia items are big right now. Magic cards, Pokemon and sports cards worth more and more. Even the old Star Wars CCG game.
