One side claims Donald Trump is for sure a racist. Fine.
Then they claim that the other side must also agree with the conclusion that he is a racist. This is the error in logic.
For people to communicate properly on issues, they must first acknowledge that is is possible to reach a different conclusion based on the same observations.
I'll give you an example:
Donald Trump says something about Mexicans. One half of the population may conclude that he is racist based on his discussion of Mexicans. The other half of the population concludes that he is not racist because Mexico is a country not a race. Both sides of this argument are hearing Trump say the same statement - literally the same video. And yet, they both reach different conclusions. Basically half and half. Is one side right and one side wrong? Perhaps. But it is incorrect to assume that all sides are reaching the same conclusion.
As we have seen, it is divisive to project your conclusion onto the other side, and then make claims about their values or their intect based on that projection.

BoLevi,
Yes or No question:
Do you believe Donald Trump is racist?

The claim against Trump voters here is that they are either racist, or are willing to tolerate racism in others (or that they are stupid as well, I suppose).
My comment was simply that Trump voters just simply might not believe that he is racist so don't perceive themselves as EITHER racist or racist-tolerant.
I was then asked if I thought Trump was a racist. The question simply had no bearing on the point I was making, and I pointed that out.
The reason I'm making any of these points at all is because the inclination to vilify someone else simply because they have reached a different conclusion than you is the reason that the world is so fractured at the moment. The problem exists on both sides of the aisle. People prefer to have affirmation of their conclusions rather than have someone point out that half of the population disagrees with them- which hurts their brains. It's easy to see why people congregate in their groups and surround themselves by their respective echo chambers. And then they shoot the messenger who reminds them that there is no consensus on their particular flavor of worldview.

Known side effects of inhaling your own foul troll gas include inability to pronounce and write words that include "Yes" or "No". While temporary in effect, continuous exposure will result in a slow and nuanced decay in comprehension skills, including an inability to communicate basic linguistic expressions of the affirmative (or negative, should the sufferer choose to believe so).
If side effects continue, consider removing political spin as a potential remedy to anemic answers.

Richard Hopkins’s claim that a postmaster in Erie, Pa., instructed postal workers to backdate ballots mailed after Election Day was cited by Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) in a letter to the Justice Department calling for a federal investigation. Attorney General William P. Barr subsequently authorized federal prosecutors to open probes into credible allegations of voting irregularities and fraud, a reversal of long-standing Justice Department policy.
But on Monday, Hopkins, 32, told investigators from the U.S. Postal Service’s Office of Inspector General that the allegations were not true, and he signed an affidavit recanting his claims, according to officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe an ongoing investigation. Democrats on the House Oversight Committee tweeted late Tuesday that the “whistleblower completely RECANTED.”

I find the discussion about the topic more interesting than the discussion about my conclusion on the issue.
How would you respond if I said yes?
How would you respond if I said no?

I am being evasive, for reasons I mention in my post just above.
Frankly, I find observing people piously taking sides on the issue to be fascinating - much more fascinating than discussing my own little single opinion on the matter.
