Interesting to see what the trade of impending UFA Curtis Glencross to the Washington Capitals in 2015 netted the Flames.
Curtis Glencross was a productive player during his tenure with the Flames, and the fact that we picked him off the Oilers' roster (also as a UFA) brings home the E=NG mantra.
I thought we made off pretty well with the 2 draft picks from WSH, but I didn't realize how deep that trade tree goes.

Dangle says we "passed" on Adam Fox when in all reality he told Calgary he wasn't signing here and wanted to play in NY. Thought he was more knowledgeable than that.

He also said that Hanifin is D first and isn't going to score? Does he watch hockey?

I mean, the Glencross trade was a very solid one given the state of the team at the time. Selling at the deadline because you were rebuilding, despite being in a legit playoff race took some guts for sure. Awesome trade.
But an embarrassment of riches? Hardly.
Firstly, Kylington is barely an NHL Dman at 23 years old.
Secondly, as the trade tree shows, Treliving had to add quite a lot to that 2nd round pick from the Glencross trade to get Hamilton, and then he also had to add to Hamilton to get Hanifin and Lindholm.
Nothing wrong with any of it, but it's not like the Flames used the picks from that trade to directly strike gold or something.
If they'd used the two picks from Washington to draft legit stars then that'd be more deserving of the "Embarrassment of Riches" description.

One of the YouTube comments (yes, I know, I'm going to disinfect my eyes now) addressed that. If you add it all up, it's Glencross, Ferland, Fox, and a 1st, 2nd,and 3rd for Lindholm, Hanifin, and Kylington. None of the three draft picks have turned into NHL regulars so far. With Ferland's future up in the air, it amounts to Fox for Lindholm + Hanifin, plus tweeners on both sides.
I agree, it's not ‘an embarrassment of riches’, but it's still pretty decent use of assets.

Yeah but we would have drafted one hell of a player with that first. Boston sure blew those 3 picks in a row.

I think it was rumored we would’ve went for Konecny... By no means is he not a good player, but it would be hard to pass up the top 3 you listed.
Chabot was someone the Flames were really high on as well and I believe visited Calgary before the draft. I did hear Boomer say they were really high on Konecny as well.
I loved both Hamilton trades for the Flames and were excited when they both went down. Barzal sure would have been an amazing pick in hindsight.

I was all in for Barzal even in 2015. Thought NJ was taking him at 6, the fact that he fell to 16 was crazy at the time, and looks even crazier now.

Agreed. The embarrassment of riches stops at a 2nd and 3rd for Glenny, that alone in itself is accurate, that was a steal. All the other commentary piled on top to is really reaching. Trees could go on forever if they were done like this...
