I know it's 2020, but can we at least enjoy this beautiful day for a bit before this thread goes downhill? Pretty please?

If we're on the same page up until now, then anyone who votes for Trump is therefore someone who:
1. Is a racist and/or sexist themself.
2. Doesn't consider rampant racism and sexism from a presidential candidate to be a deal-breaker.
So what exactly is your case?
|
Your logic requires you to believe that somewhere close to half of the population of the united states are racist sexists, including all of the non-white people that voted for or supported Trump. (In addition to all of the racists that voted for Biden for other reasons.)
Do you believe that to be true.

It was easy money the odds at that point were clearly no worse than 50/50.
I lost a bit on my Trump bet as his odds never recovered in the late counting as Arizona came in slower than Georgia and Pennsylvania.

Donald Trump’s eviction is going to be bigger than his inauguration.

Maybe try reading the post again and understanding it, instead of flapping around.
And you’re using Jiri, a Canadian, to make your point which grossly generalised all blue state folks? What state is he from?
It’s not longer fair to ask whether supporting Trump, who is all the things he is, means you are also those things OR don’t find them a deal breaker?
Nah, that’s bull####. People have been popping in this thread saying the same thing, that identity politics or race didn’t really matter to most people. It’s not a problem with the conversation, it’s a fact. For a lot of people in the US, it’s just not a deal breaker. There are some real racists mixed in there too, but you’d have to be boldly ignorant to deny that. It’s a fair comment on the state of things.
I’d agree with you if Jiri actually said “everyone who votes for Trump is a racist, or at least a little bit” but he didn’t. You know he didn’t, I know he didn’t, and anyone who can read and understand at a 4th grade level knows he didn’t. If you wanted to catch a real example of it, they exist in this thread. But using Jiri and saying you rest your case? Troll harder, entertain us at least, because otherwise it’s just nonsense that nobody is buying.

There may still be plenty of problems left to solve ahead, but the sun is shining here in Vancouver, I just popped open a bottle of my best wine and raised a glass with friend in NYC who I was with four years ago when the news broke that Trump had won, and it's a better day today than it was yesterday. It feels like a weight is being lifted.
You've gotta take the wins when they come and enjoy them. Hope everyone who has felt the same weight on their chest the last 4 years is breathing easier and has some time to celebrate today.

All of my in-laws are hardcore Republicans. I’ve had evangelical “friends” look down on my wife and I, lecturing us on what God had apparently told them, about how we haven’t prayed enough. They’re still doing it but we’re so content to sit back and enjoy the outcome of this election. We don’t need to engage them.
Let’s just enjoy this moment and not argue with trolls.
Congrats Biden and especially to Kamala Harris for being the first POC and female VP.
I can’t wait to not be outraged every week at US politics.

“The answer cannot be found in the writing of others, or the words of a trained mind.”
Biden will not fix the country. But as this stage, even the illusion of a cultural shift may help create an environment where citizens can focus on issues rather than rants. Policy will not be sew the seeds to heal a nation; that work starts with each and every member of the country.

There are three other possibilities, which intellectually honest people would recognize as possibilities, even if they didn't agree with them:
3. People don't think Donald Trump is actually a racist OR a sexist
4. Donald Trump is not actually a racist
5. Donald Trump is not actually a sexist
(Being a sexist does not automatically make one a racist, and vice versa).

Seeing the impromptu celebrations from LA, NY and Washington were incredible. People don't party in the streets from election results (normally), they do this when their dictator is killed or defeated and they have been liberated.
I can't believe some of you think Van Jones' tears were fake. I had tears seeing those celebrations and I am not even an American.
Also, Gritty is the single greatest thing ever created!

no, intellectually honest people don't recognize these possibilities because they remember how Donald Trump has spoken about Mexicans and they remember him saying things like "grab them by the #####". And those were not isolated incidents either.
Donald Trump is a racist and a sexist. Period.

This is wishful thinking. Donald Trump's departure will create a vacuum that the Law of Clickbait will require to be filled.
Mitch will become whatever the new version of Orange Man Bad is. The same people that needed their fainting couches over Trump will just find another person/issue to be apoplectic about. Then it will be: "can you believe half the country is supporting XXXXX, what a bunch of racists."
There are too many people - politicians, corporations, news media, celebrities, etc, that gain too much from hysteria for it to be just allowed to evaporate as a fuel.
