It is not an accurate poll though, as there will be more options on the actual ballot.

I would update it and then it'll be more interesting as we would see how many people will go 3rd party.

Biden was like my 5th choice of the Dem nominees but he's actually surprised me a lot, in a good way.

He's moving that way.

Only one of Biden or Trump will be president. There is functionally no difference between voting for a third-party candidate and spoiling your ballot. For the sake of this forum poll, if someone was inclined to throw their vote away on a third-party candidate, they should just exercise restraint and not vote at all.

Give him time. He will prove you wrong! At least Trump is near death age.

He was like 3rd or 4th for me.

The biggest issue I have is that he has already pretty much resigned himself to being a one-term president. That means in 2024, the Dems will have no incumbent advantage.

If things are going well Harris will have that advantage...plus a flashy new candidate to take on Trump or Don Jr. Lol

It's already a big ask for Canadians to make an educated decision on Trump vs. Biden. Most of the voting likely comes down to:
- what I've heard on the news
- single-issue concerns (KXL for example)
- partisanship with a false perception of right/left split in America as it applies to Canada
- whichever/troll votes/no interest or baseline education
- what I think would be best for Canada (which is pointless, considering if you could vote, you'd be American, so Canada would be lower on your decision list)

Adding a 3rd party option when the vast majority of people here don't know the third party options or their platforms is probably pointless and would draw in more of the 4th factor, given how casual this poll is anyway.

I’d say many people held their nose and elected our own mini trump because we want our oil industry saved and thought that party was the best option. In that respect I can see lots of Albertans thinking Trump is best for us. He very well might be on that issue, but on so many others he is terribad. I think it’s best for our country to have a more open, thoughtful, sane, coherent US leader given our economy is still highly tied to them.

I don't think the vast majority held their nose. They made sure to take in every whiff of a Kenney's pungent smell.

Possibly, but history isn't on her side.

Of the 17 vice president's that ran for president in the past, only 5 were elected to become president (Biden might make it 6/18 this year).

Not really great odds.

And then the understanding of how American politics works is a major factor as well. The complete lack of understanding in how the system actually works is stunning, on both sides of the border. I can forgive the Canadians, but the fact that so few Americans actually understand how voting works is just shameful. So this plays into the mix here as well. The inclusion of the third party candidates is just a display of that aspect. Also, including the third party does give a cop out vote for those who are the shy Trump voter in Canada. The data is interesting to watch unfold, kind of like crisply packaged sheets.

Damn, I accidentally clicked Trump. Just pretend one of those votes is actually on Biden!

I'm surprised it's not higher with Biden saying he'll cancel KXL. It's a big deal for Alberta and Canada. Trump on the other hand has been a constant supporter.

The data will be interesting in what it says about Canada more so than anything about American politics.

Please expand and share your "especially out west" comment?
