Best Ramen/Noodle/Pho Restaurants
Hi CP,
What is everyone's favourite ramen or noodle bowl restaurant in Calgary? I live in the deep SE and we don't really have any places that I know of nearby. Kinjo Sushi does a few ramen soups and they're okay, but I'm looking for a really authentic place. I can imagine there's a bunch closer to downtown.
What are your favorites?

Shiki Menya is easily the best ramen in the city and it's not even close. I also enjoyed Ramen Ichinen but haven't been in a while. For other types, Calan Beef Noodle is pretty good for hand-pulled Chinese noodles. I find most Vietnamese places in the city pretty similar, so there are lots of good spicy peanut sate options.
Oh, and Banana Leaf has great Malaysian food like Laksa. Super spicy if you're into that.

Ramen: Menyantai in Kensington near Chicken on the Way.
Pho: Pho Dau Bo on International Ave or Nho Saigon in Marda Loop.

Menyantai is my usual go-to for Ramen, and Pho Ahn Huyen on Center Street for Pho.
It's less traditional, but I like some of the options at Jinya, like karaage chicken or brussel sprouts.

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but Northern Pho is the less anise/cinomminy of the 2 major pho styles and is the one I much prefer.
Any recommendations for a solid Northern Pho?

Nho Saigon in Marda Loop does not have excessive spices in their broth.

Good luck finding northern pho in Calgary. Northern pho is more "subtle" in it's flavour, to put it politely. In reality it's kinda bland compared to southern, at least in my limited experience. They do use better noodles though and it often comes with the fried donut stick which is amazing.

Yeah, anyone making a ramen judgement here who hasn't been to Shiki Menya should probably recuse themselves and get back to us once they have. I scoffed at recommendations from friends, and questioned how much better it could really be than the other tasty ramen I've had in the city. Then I tried it.

The chef from Shikiji is now at Aki. Not sure if they serve that there though.

Please change the title to read "within 20 kms of Stony and Deerfoot south".
I mean I like ramen, but don't want to drive.

There is a ramen place in the Avenida food market called Oishidesu Ramen Shack. I haven't tried it yet but it is in the south.

I'll add a +1 for Wakkado and Menyati.
Shimizu is a great Japanese restaurant, although I haven't had their ramen specifically.

For Pho, I have been relying on Blue Ocean near Chinook and Van Son in Chestermere.
For Ramen, I have really enjoyed the Chili Goma Ramen from Kanpai on 8th Street.
