The 48” LG CX OLED finally being available has made me order one of them for my desk set-up. Pretty damn excited about it.

I’ve got my extra Dual Sense in hand now as well. Seems good. I feel like it has a higher “thumb stance” thanks to added girth.

Anyone order a PS5 with Amazon and an XBox with Microsoft? Just wondering if you received any updates?

Only correspondence I received was from Amazon saying they think I won't get the PS5 any time soon.

It's amazing. I have a separate stand/holder thing for my set up but I think the stand that it comes with have a bit of a butt that pushed the monitor closer than you think.

When I opened up the box, I started from the top initially but the instructions seemed confusing. It just showed to pull it out but while still warning about how you hold/touch the screen. It seemed a little silly but I ended up sealing it back up and opening the bottom so I could just lift the box up and free the TV. Not sure if I was just too excited and couldn't read instructions properly. :P

If you end up using it via the PC/gsync, you probably need the firmware update. Use this website even if you are just going to console game - just for peace of mind:

http://lcdtech.info/en/tests/dead.pixel.htm

The pendulum demo is a good quick test that it's working:

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/community/demos/

And don't be a dummy like me, when you first search for the 4k resolutions, realize that you need to scroll down a lot to reach the higher refresh ones even though you'll see some that you think should work at the top.

Anyhow, ENJOY!!

Yeah I’ve already ordered the Ergotron HX desk mount and appropriate vesa attachment kit to deal with the rather large butt on the stand it comes with (seemed to be the best desktop set-up I could find being recommended, but pricey).

Thanks for the test recommendations!

Good stuff!

I did a deep dive into VESA adapters and pre-emptively bought this to suite my situation and a bunch of M6 screws and washers so I wasn't stuck waiting a long time once it arrived.

2.1 hdmi cable branding is also a mess (many fakes), if you want anything over 6 feet it'll cost an arm and a leg at this early stage.

This is my 3rd Xbox ordered directly from Microsoft and I don’t remember getting a note from them on any of the others, nor have I received anything other than the original order confirmation on this Xbox. IIRC, you get a shipping update and it arrives!

I’m pumped because Borderlands 3 is getting a free Xbox series X update and a new season pass.

The Demon Souls remake on PS5 doesn't support ray tracing which is interesting because 2 of the biggest selling points of the new systems are framerates and ray tracing.

That's disappointing as this is the PS5 launch title I'm most interested in.

What're your guys' strategies for the new systems?

I like the idea of paying the premium, so I can have the disc drive. Are both xbox and ps going to be backwards compatible?

I've got a Xbox One X, PS4 Pro, and a gaming rig. the systems are collecting dust, so I'm thinking about listing them on kijiji or doing the EB trade ins. Not sure how much these systems will go down after pre-order price. I should also be responsible, as I was laid off this month!

Yes, the PS5 is only backwards compatible with PS4 games though.

Xbox Series X/S is back compatible with anything you were able to play on Xbox One. This includes OG Xbox and Xbox 360 games, majority of those games will also use Machine Learning to add HDR to the games with Microsoft's Auto-HDR functionality.

Also Xbox is working on double framerate boost that could see some of those back compatible games double in framerate speed.

Which seems like enough, honestly. Playing even PS3/X360 games at this point feels unbearable. It's wild how quickly even late generation games from that era became completely out of date.

Yeah, I still have some PS3/360 games that I never did finish and I think trying to finish them would probably be pretty painful.

I recently tried playing Assassins Creed Black Flag which came out on both generations. Looking back, the graphics were apparently pretty impressive for the time:

Quote:
The graphics were also widely acclaimed. The Edge staff stated that "From a graphical standpoint, Black Flag's world is built to amaze regardless of which console generation you're playing it on." Reviewers praised the game's open world as "beautiful" and "gorgeous;" Sliva called Black Flag "one of the best looking games of 2013." The game's level of detail was also acclaimed, with the open world's water, rain and sea, being cited as "amazing" to look at.
But it honestly feels like playing a potato to me now. Can't imagine what some earlier PS3/360-only games look like in comparison. I couldn't stand it, totally impossible for me to get into without the look and feel of the games being a total distraction. Gaming has come so far in 7 years.

I completely disagree, playing through KOTR 1 & 2 again on my One X was awesome! The graphics were better and the games still stand as some of the most fun I have had in any generation.

Not to mention playing some of my old favorites like Fusion Frenzy and Hunter: The Reckoning with friends was very enjoyable.

I think what you forget is Xbox tries not to completely port games, they make them better when they added older titles to back compat.

lol I think the "better" graphics argument is a bit of a reach. I mean I guess they are technically better if you're comparing an Xbox game on the Xbox One, but we're not bridging the gap from Xbox to even 360 here. Even with the boost on Xbox One on a OG Xbox game like KOTR, they look distractingly terrible to me.

Glad you still enjoying playing those ones though and Microsoft's way of doing it has value for you. For me, backwards compatibility is really about playing the last 2-3 years of games, anything above that is at best a bonus.

I personally don't care about backwards compatibility past last generation as I typically don't replay games unless they are classics that get a full remaster treatment. I'm all about latest and greatest.

It doesn't look like the PS5 includes an Ultra HD HDMI cable based on the description of the cable on the box. This isn't confirmed by Sony, but just a heads up you might want to buy a Ultra HD HDMI cable if your TV supports HDMI 2.1. The Xbox Series X does come with a Ultra HD HDMI cable.

The best way to play older games is emulation. RPCS3 isn't quite there yet, but it can play a good number of PS3 games at full speed now. Another year or two and it should be mature enough to handle most of the PS3 catalog

PS2 emulation is quite mature though, and I've been playing the Burnout games through PCSX2. When you crank up the res to 4K and add anti-aliasing, even PS2 games can look pretty decent
