You're getting hooked on the black one, as it is the only one, by a long long shot, that looks ok and that is because it has proper consistent color pattering.
And, the black one still would look much better if you eliminated the tacked on senseless pedestal part, but kept the striping and color pattern.

Yeah totally. I love uniform aesthetics so I'm all about seeing new designs & retros and all that, but even i think the NBA has gone way too far with it. Thirds (or fourths? Fifths?) don't even feel special anymore.

The diagonal text is awful IMO.
But I know the Flames were seriously considering it circa 2007, as they had asked me to come up with designs with Calgary or Flames in diagonal letters. I offered my objections and the project fell apart anyways thankfully.
Though I wasn't surprised when the cowboy script jersey came out either.

A home jersey should NEVER have the city name. Ever. Unless you’re the canucks.
Home is for team name, road is for city name.
Putting the name of your city on a home jersey is so dumb.

No jerseys should ever have any words on the front whatsoever. This isn't baseball.
The Rangers get a pass because they've had the same design forever, but even with them, the Statue of Liberty jerseys were infinitely better.

If the Flames are going to do another wordmark jersey, I want to see it based on the 89-era trainers sweaters.
And I agree that home jerseys should say "Flames" and away should say "Calgary," so if they were doing a home reverse-retro, then more-or-less inverting the colours of the sweater would be awesome. For an away jersey, just turn the sweater into the jersey and replace "Flames" with "Calgary."
