If we win the cup, it's basically a win for the Canucks too.

I think part of it is due to how much they see those teams.
Thinking they need to start watching a larger scope of teams. The real answers that will advance this team in all likelihood lie beyond western Canada.
But snagging pieces from a second round team is a step up from a team with AHL depth.

EDIT: Here, someone put together a cap compliant 22 man roster with this signing and projected contract for Kylington factored in: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2075953

Thanks. You’d like the flexibility of 23 players if this is truly going to be a compressed schedule.

I think the temporarily relocated AHL affiliate in close proximity might provide enough flexibility to make a 22-man roster work.

In fairness, Leivo, Tanev, and Markstrom aren't exactly castoffs. They're probably three of the Canucks' better players. Leivo's a good player, just needs tonget healthy. He's the first guy we've signed that I could legitimately see pushing Lucic out of the top 9... hopefully Milan doesn't pout if that happens.

In Toronto, Babcock was not playing him and their fanbase was actually a bit annoyed about it. Eventually they traded him just to do him a solid and he took off in Vancouver.

A Simon - Ryan - Leivo fourth line would be interesting and might actually be able to chip in not infrequently.

I would be thrilled if that was the third line... that being the fourth line would be amazing.
Pretty cheap line, too. Under $5 million.

Would it make a big difference cap wise? You wouldn’t want to be sending many of these guys down, almost all require waivers.

Yeah, I suspect we will see more routine mobility between the farm and NHL considering a condensed schedule. Depth is going to be key. I suspect there will be a handful of bottom 6 players that move in and out of the line-up on a regular basis, as well as more ice-time management on the top 6. Having players that can move up and down the line-up temporarily while not not dragging others down will be huge. I'm thinking guys like Nordstrom, Simon and Leivo, while maybe not usually top 6, will see elevated ice time in order to give other players a temporary rest at some points during the season.
I predict more line juggling and interclub transactions than usual.

I think Calgary got the better of most everything they got Edmonton-wise. Glencross, Talbot, Smid, Reider - all contributed. You could count Versteeg too.

For sure... but all the guys under that top 22 are either waiver exempt (Gawdin and Phillips) or would almost certainly clear (Robinson, Rinaldo, etc)

I was going to say the same, they'd stack up more like a third line on a number of teams.
You have a pure passer in Simon, a guy with a shot in Leivo and a center that can drive possession and play at both ends in Ryan.
Just wouldn't want to touch Lucic - Bennett - Dube after how they carried this team at the most important time.

Yeah from what I remember when he was like 22 Babcock healthy scratched him for basically an entire season.

Those aren’t the guys you’d be sending down to make cap room though. They are all starting the year in Stockton unless something gives.
The farm club could be next door but not sure if it helps manage the cap.
