I've been following this thread for quite a while. I have come to the conclusion that there are a lot of people that want too much. The roads are fine. Were just getting used to the warmer winters with less precipitation. And when it does snow, they want it removed right away.

Snow removal is in fact a science and has many complicated variables. For anyone on the board to disagree or argue the point... well.. unless you work for the city making the decisions, then what you say really means nothing.

There has to be a fine balance between cost & time. That balance is what you have now. Hate to say it... but deal with it. This is Canada. I'd love to hear someone from Finland talk about this subject. I bet their way of thinking is entirely different than ours. They adapt, we refuse to.

This kind of snow fall doesn't happen that often in winter, I think people can tough it out for the couple of days.

I was watching the news last night and they interviewed the guy in charge of the snow removal. He said for a 24 snow removal service of most roads they would need an increase of 75% equipment plus the staff to operate it all. He said the problem with this would be that lots of people would be sitting around when their isn't a huge snow fall and would be wasting tax payers money. So I think we need to find something that's balances timely removal with not wasting our money.

Why do they keep blabbing on about "24 hour" snow removal? Most people aren't looking for platinum service. We're just looking for somewhat better service. That's it. How about 10% more equipment?

Ah, Silly Hall beauracrats. What a dysfunctional mess that place is.

I can tell you for a fact that my car with winter tires is every bit as capable, if not more, than my 4 wheel drive truck with all season tires.

So yes, winter tires make a huge difference. Especially when it is -20C outside. Have you ever tried winter tires?

But you're right, winter tires are no match for natural stupidity...

I had always used all seasons on my Grand-Am until this year. I put Nokians on and the difference is unreal.

People rave about winter tires yet I've never tried them. With my new car, maybe I should. I miss my old 4x4 for winter driving already.
