I think it’s time to see what we have in Kylington. I’d like to see him grab a bigger role.

In a lot of ways I'm in the same boat as you, but I don't think he's going to get that opportunity here, and I'm unsure if its fair to judge him by what we get from a 6/7D role. I'd also be hesitant to move him. Tough spot.

It wasn't just a tough year. If you look at anything past mid December 2018, you saw the regression start and, BT decided to pick up Oscar Fantenberg. Now let's move on to the mess of a 2019-2020 season. The regression continued with the first line, and BT once again went out and picked up another pair of defenseman in, Erick Gustafsson and Brandon Davidson. Maybe the top line hit a peak, and have come back down to earth?

I agree with all the other points that you make.

It's certainly possible. We'll see.

Not to relive that series, but I was reflecting on the same thing. There were a couple of key turning points for the Flames in my view. That was one of them. 12 seconds left, and I think he could have been a lot more physical and aggressive on that play. Flames win that and it's a different series. Same with blowing that 4 goal lead in game 6. Both should have been wins. Ok I am done...moving on

from the Treliving article last week:

Quote:
The priority now is adding depth on the right side of their blue line and a fourth-liner or two who can kill penalties.

“Role guys are important people,” said Treliving, whose club said goodbye to penalty killing specialists Tobias Rieder (Buffalo) and Mark Jankowski (Pittsburgh) last week.

“We’re going to look to add character individuals to play hard roles like PK.”
They have since signed Nordstrom and Simon. Should expect a depth d-man who can play the right side soon.

Sami Vatanen *fingers crossed* likely will be more than league minimum, but maybe covid offseason changes things.

I hope they can make a trade for Weegar still.

Would be exactly what the team needs IMO, but salary would need to go out as part of the deal

Bowey and Vatanen would be the two I would go after. Vatanen is a tough grab though, still have Kylington to ink.

Wouldn't mind Bowey. Came from the Kelowna Rockets D factory. Thought he was a good prospect, wonder if he got caught in the Capitals system and then stuck on a bad Detroit team.

Good catch. So Ryan Huska was his head coach for 3+ seasons. Lots of familiarity there at least, assuming it was a good relationship.

I want Holzer only for that fact that Korbinian is an epic first name.

Out of this list:

1) Vatanen
2) Rutta
3) Bowey

4) Hamonic

Everyone else shouldn't even be considered

Has there been any news out of the Hamonic camp? Is he telling people he’s not playing this next year or is this just indicative of the utter lack of demand for him at this point.

Vatanen on a cheap 1 year deal would be terrific.

It would be cool for sure - but I'm just not sure he fits here/would be all that excited about signing for cheap to play on a 3rd pairing. He'll be after a top 4 spot I imagine so he can work on boosting his value. Kevin Connauton, Ben Hutton, Slater Koekkoek, or Jan Ruutta feel like "better fits" from a role/cap perspective.
