Balls to the walls dude that is defensively sound and a complete puck hound.

Pain in the ass to play against, will hit everything that moves and never quits on a play. I’m pretty sure he’ll be a fan favourite.

I like this signing, low cost and term. Gives the player a chance to earn a bigger contract

Going back to Ryan, he probably won't get the ice-time or opportunities to play as compared to what he is paid (or he will get that at the expense of Bennett). If the cap had gone up, this would be a non-issue. Right now, when the teams are facing a cap crunch, Flames are overpaying a few roster players by a margin, in addition to the buyout penalties they have. Moving a player like Ryan (who is probably pencilled to be a 4th liner on our team) allows us to get a cheaper replacement.

4C is not a position you want cheap/inexperienced. If you have to pay a premium for an effective vet, this is not an issue.

Cheap/Prospect 4Cs (and Jay Beagle) usually get their teeth kicked in, failing to carry the play.

You want a 4th line that's effective 5v5. The way Mangiapane - Ryan - Hathaway was.

You can use prospects and filler on the wings, so guys like Nordstrom and Gawdin and Phillips and Buddy are perfect there. Mix and match until you find chemistry and skill.

You can't have the 4C be yet another iteration of Corbin Knight, Derek Grant or Markus Granlund.

Glad to see the team is investing in Lindholm. That guy is our best forward and we can't lose him and surrounding him with friends is a great way to keep him happy

Any one signed for under $1.2M I believe can be sent to the AHL and won't count against your cap.

You could literally sign 5 guys at 700K and send three of them down and not hurt your options at all.

Would have liked both.

Nordstrom - Ryan - Reider would be a really solid 4th line.

I hope they give Nordstrom - Ryan - Phillips a chance. With Nordstrom as the Hathaway and Phillips as the Mangiapane.

I can also see Glenn Gawdin as the third guy if they want the line to be a little bigger and better defensively.

I like the Hathaway comparison for Nordstrom, I made it too in a column I wrote last night. I think they're incredibly similar players and I could see a Ryan-Nordstrom combination working extremely well at even strength and on the PK.

Ryan Dittrick @ryandittrick
Joakim Nordstrom saw a great fit with the #Flames, but his best friend Elias Lindholm helped seal the deal:

"Not only in this last week, but ever since (Lindholm) got to Calgary, he's only had praise for the organization. He kept telling me how much he's enjoying it there."

So is Lindholm the Wizard at the end of the day, and not Brad?

Sounds like he nabbed Markstrom and Nordstrom for us.

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Newly signed #Flames forward Joakim Nordstrom has plenty of connections to his new team and city.

Won a WJC gold medal at the Saddledome in 2012. Tight with Lindholm and Markstrom. Trains with Kylington in the summer. Played with Hanifin and Ryan in Carolina.

Interesting that Lindholm has now been crucial to bringing two free agents to town: Markstrom and Nordstrom. He is a clear leader on the team. This is one of those situations where the value of intangibles is actually measurable.

How many best friends does Lindholm have?
