Doc Emrick retires
Talk about a familiar voice on hockey broadcasts in the States.

I assume John Forslund probably takes over his role as the go-to national guy on NBC.

I hope this is a real retirement and not a retirement because he got some bad news health wise. Legends voice.
He was the voice of the Maine Mariners for Brian Burke’s only full season of pro hockey.

An absolute giant in the history of the industry.
Really hope he enjoys his retirement......and guaranteed he watches as much hockey as his wife allows him too. He is a fan of the game above all. Cancer survivor, animal rights advocate, Lester B Patrick winner.....helluva a resume.

He's been synonymous with hockey since I was a kid. Won't be the same without him.

Easily the best American hockey PBP man I’ve ever heard.
Enjoy retirement, Doc.

Given the choice, I'd always pick Doc over the CBC for play by play and then flip to CBC for intermission.

I didn't realize his "Doc" nickname came from the fact that he has a PhD in Communications.
74 years old. Enjoy your retirement.

Doc's style was not my cup of tea but by all accounts, just a great person. And the guy was smooth with a great vocabulary.

Doc has become synonymous with hockey in the US. The passion and excitement he brought to calling games undoubtedly secured many, many new fans for this sport. I will genuinely miss the atmosphere he created with his voice and his energy.

Loved the way he called a game - passionate, knowledgeable, unbiased, great rhythm and cadence. Just great.

American fans got to listen to guys like Doc and Sam Rosen. I could listen to Rosen do Rangers games every day.
Except for perhaps Cuthbert no one on Canadian television comes close.

Well he doesn't look it, but he
is 74. Probably just calling it quits while he's still good rather than going too long like a few other broadcasters tend to. What a career anyway.
