So you car/zamboni is on fire, what should you do?

(a) Jump out of the vehicle immediately, or
(b) Keep driving it because it will look cool on video...

I don’t think he was trying to look cool, I think he was trying to get the flaming Zamboni outside.

Ice rinks aren’t exactly known for their ventilation.

I think the driver was trying to get it out of the building. A zamboni on fire is literally a ticking time bomb.

It's an Olympia (not a Zamboni) which is powered by natural gas. The tank is sitting right next to the driver.

Yikes.

How? Open area with no combustibles within 80’ of you, and sprinklers above... or pull it into the garage with tons of equipment and risk it blowing up while you’re on it. Dumb, should have left it where it was and directed everyone outside. This is why you need procedures in place that are practiced (or at least read annually) because it’s hard to make sound decisions in times like this.

The driver is right next to a propane tank. If that were to go up then the roof could be compromised by an explosion. The driver probably wanted the building to exist so he could have a job tomorrow and to protect everyone in the building. There are no guarantees that everyone in the building could be evacuated in time. And the driver wasn't "pulling it into the garage"; he was headed for the garage door that leads outside.

Where people could be standing/walking from their cars not on the other side of boards and glass?

Building to exist so he has a job? Because the thing might explode? Are you serious? How about not risk being blown up by riding on a flaming time bomb? His life wasn’t worth the building and he wasn’t saving anyone else’s. Arguably potentially put more at risk, and I can’t for the life of me understand why that one guy is just casually skating around.

Save the building to save your job. Stupidest thing I’ve read today.

What a terrible driver. A real pro would never shift a Zamboni into "Fire" until he was off the ice.

They are all Zambonis.

Do you also call off brand Kleenex facial tissue?

You're acting like I implied that he weighed all the available options, and was given location details on all those in attendance before deciding on a course of action. He made his decision in mere seconds.

Relax and stop being so bloody serious about an off the cuff comment.

Some people see danger and they run towards it in attempt to mitigate. Others provide commentary on message boards with benefit of hindsight.

I'm sure you'll write something that takes the eventual top spot. Try the decaf, you're already wound too tight for today.

A propane tank isn't going to blow up for a long time with that amount of fire around it.

I do if a facial tissue company could sue me.

"CORRECTION: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that the vehicle was a Zamboni. The story has been corrected to reflect that it was an Olympia-branded ice resurfacer."

Typically, the zamboni exit is nowhere near the main entrance to the building - it’s about as safe a place as you could put a flaming vehicle in that situation.

Remember, the ceiling isn’t very high. There’s a lot of smoke, and a lot of fire. If it explodes, it could set the whole roof ablaze (maybe, I’m just saying, it’s not an unreasonable possibility).

There are also clearly people on the ice and milling about - you don’t know the force with which that vehicle could explode, and there’s no guarantee the boards and glass will prevent an entire front row of moms from being fragged.

I think it’s perfectly reasonable to abandon that thing and save yourself.

Getting that thing outdoors is unselfish and heroic.

A real pro would jump the Zamboni over 10 buses while on Fire.
