Fire off an email to corporate headquarters explaining what happened. Who knows they might send you a gift certificate or something.

I guess my thought is that this bunch of snow isn't all that freaky, and even prior to 10 days ago we still had ruts on my residential street; including ice patches at the 4 way intersection that connects all of our cul-de-sacs.
Perhaps plowing after every single snowfall is a little too much, but how about once every 2 weeks; if needed of course.

Since all of our Storm Water eventually goes into the River we also need to think of the environmental impacts of throwing more salt on the road. I have heard the frog population in Southern Alberta has been largely affected by the use of road salts... maybe a CP environmentalist can shead some light on these negative impacts.

Isn't residential plowing done by grader though? That likely requires hiring outside help, which costs a lot more money than if the city had the equipment to do it.
And I'm sure you can call the city about the icy patches and have it sanded.

What I dont get is why someone who owns a 950 sq ft condo (like me for example) would pay the same to clean the streets as say somone who owns a 1500 sq ft cookie cutter house in Tuscany.
Also, the reason people get ticked about tax increases in this city is because as a whole Calgary pays more in city taxes than Edmonton, yet E town has no problem clearing its streets and it still owns its own power generating/transmission company where as Calgary has divested itself of its and has nothing to show for it.
If people in this city would wise up and vote McIver (spelling) in as mayor instead of Bronco then you would see this city run as it should be and not someones liberal wet dream.

When I last was in Edmonton, their goal was plowing all residential steets once per year - and when I mean plowing I mean down to the pavement.

Which is why they need to strap toll roads on to Memorial, Glenmore, Crowchild, 16th Ave N etc.
I have always wondered why memorial isnt a toll road, makes perfect sense as per paying for road mtce etc.

Governments dont have to compete on salary so long as they are withing the 10-15% area. For workers that think about it for a while, the gov pension is easily worth the decrease in salary.

I guess I'm not following your reasoning there, MYK. Why wouldn't you pay the same? In my mind square footage of your dwelling has little to do with how much each person should pay for snow removal.
If you are thinking that because you don't own a car, then one might argue that you do use other services that rely on roads. Pizza delivery, mail delivery, Transit, etc. I would also be able to argue that my neighbours with their 2 teenage kids and their 4 cars use the roads more than me and my one car, but I'm not willing to split that hair as I know trying to break it down to that level will add an extra layer of bureaucracy that would make the system un-workable.
And if that wasn't your reasoning, I appologize in advance.

They don't have to compete on salary, but we are losing guys all the time because they can find better paying jobs elsewhere. These people see higher dollars per hour, quit, and pull their city pension when they go. Some are so proud that they just received a few thousand in pension money.

Yes.....I hate the friggen salt....destorys my truck.....makes me have to wash my truck way more often...and really how often are the roads that bad when the temp is above -10 C? Almost never.....the roads get terrible when the temperature goes to the -15 or -20 range.....stupid ontarians. Also I dont even think they have snowplows out here. It started snowing yesterday at about 5pm....snowed HARD all night...I woke up to almost 2 feet of snow....and I got in my truck an hour or two ago(lunchtime) and NONE of the roads have been plowed...NONE not a single one. Not the 403 not the QEW not the 401....all three of these roads are much bigger and busier then deerfoot and there is literally piles on snow on the road.....thank god I have a truck...no one else can even drive today......what a useless ass province this is....dont complain about Calgary...believe me they do a decent job all things considered.

Salt doesn't do much to your car until water is added to the equation.

In Ottawa the roads are bad when there's snow on them. The temperature is pretty insignificant.
GTA != Ontario. But you're becoming a true Torontonian if you think Greater Toronto is all that exists in Ontario.

It was snowing when I woke up in Ottawa this morning. By noon my street was plowed as well as the sidewalk in front of my house.

I think....I THINK.....there might be some water in that white stuff that falls from the sky.

Well try using your head before posting next time....a quarter of an inch of snow in -2 degree weather does not effect the roads. If it only takes a inch and a few degreess below zero to cause you problems I advise you to stay of the roads.

Nope I just think the entire province is a bunch of fruitloops and self centred a-holes and I have alot of family in the Sudbury area as well as a cousin in Ottawa...I have seen the entire province....it all SUCKS

I guess if you live in the nations capital you get some special treatment.....god forbid all those important politicians cant back out of their drive ways...

Once again.......Ontario =

Roads get salted after it snows, not before.

A quarter inch of snow doesn't last on the roads regardless of the temperature. It'll either blow away or melt from the cars going over it.

Oh and which sucks more Moosonee, Windsor, Dryden or Cornwall?

I didn't know there was a prison in the GTA, or are you just out on parole / living in a halfway house? How much longer do you have before the court allows you to leave Ontario?

I have no problems with the snow removal in Calgary. It's the utter morons that forget how to drive after snow storms that drive me batty. I recently moved to a small town outside Calgary to get away from these "i'm in a hurry to get somewhere" morons. The other advantage to living in a small town is that my insurance rates dropped a couple hundred a year AND everyone here knows how to drive during the winter. Plus no more looking in my rearview mirror to see if that moron can stop in time before he rear ends me.

Sure....I guess that is a backhanded insult.....meh I couldnt care less I am fed up with Ontario and I hate it....nuff said.

Nope not in prison........it would be kinda hard to drive my truck around and comment on the state of the local roads from inside.......it doesnt matter why I am here....bottom line is I am, I have made a commitment and have to stay for a while......and I will bitch and moan the entire time.

Let's keep this discussion on topic, and leave the personal stuff out. Everything point that was made could have been made without the personal attacks.

Exactly. The salt lowers the freezing point of the water content in the snow, effectively "melting" it. And where does that salty water concoction then end up? On your car...

Don't we all know that our winter driving problems could be solved if we all invested in winter tires.
I hate people that think winter tires are the solution to every driving problem...
