I think that proposal makes total sense... if the Flames are either:
1) Trying to help Buffalo win a cup
2) Are starting a rebuild, in which case:
2b) Multiple 1st and 2nd round picks are part of the 'picks' portion.
Doesn't sound much like a rumour, but more like crazy fan speculation.

Umm... I would sure hope that prospect is Cozens and there's a first in there.

Yeah that first proposal doesn't make much sense unless there's a big piece or 2 from Buffalo, like Cozens and a 1st.
This latest claim is that it's a different trade though.
As mentioned, Reinhart as a possibly difficult to sign RFA is Treliving's apparent expertise. He's a bit of a right handed Monahan/Lindholm hybrid IMO. Good goal scorer, not physical, but very smart. Capable of playing C though he's been a RW on Eichel's line for the most part.

Pretty sure it's Monny OR Gaudreau.

Well wait. If we get Buffalo’s 1st too, since they have Hall now we should win the draft lottery. It would have to not be a lottery protected pick though.

I would be interested in:
Mangiapane+hanifin+rittich for reinhart+ristolainen+Ullmark. We may have to jettison Ryan in another trade after but:
Johnny-mony-lindy
Tkachuk-backlund-reinhart
Lucic-bennett-dube
Rinaldo-ryan-gawdin
Gio-andersson
Valimaki-ristolainen
Kylington/mackey-tanev
Markstrom
Ullmark
Looks stronger to me.

Rumour I saw was top 6 forward and goalie to Sabres
Monahan + Rittich for Reinhart + Miller/Montour + Cozens.
Flames sign Jimmy Howard.
Lindholm to centre.
That trade gives the Flames another RH forward, cap space to sign Mangiapane long term and also Dadonov (after Brad works RFA magic):
Gaudreau - Lindholm - Dadonov
Tkachuk - Backlund - Reinhart
Mangiapane - Bennett - Dube
Lucic - Ryan - Gawdin
Giordano - Andersson
Hanifin - Tanev
Valimaki - Montour/Miller
Markstrom
Howard/Domingue

Did you actually see this as a rumor?
I would definitely have some interest in Monahan + Rittich for Reinhart+Cozens but not sure the Sabres would want to do that?

Haha.
How come all these "rumors" this off season for our core forwards range from not very appealing to straight up nightmare fuel?

In that situation, I don't see how you have Tanev as a bottom pairing guy splitting time with Mackey. He'd be in Risto's spot most likely, as I think Tanev is much better.

If we are sending a goalie to Buf, I think one would come back, which would be Ulmark as dont think it makes sense for for Hutton as they both make exact same salary.
Also, think a RS D would be coming back, Risto seems too expensive as others have pointed out so that leaves Miller, Montour or Jokiharju
depending on what top 6 is going to Buf, would determine what else might be coming back. Very interesting.

It’s a soft market for forwards especially. Even for the UFAs available the forwards went slow and they didn’t get the term/money you’d expect.
These returns that look terrifying are Probably why none of our core forwards have moved when it seemed very likely at the end of the season.

I also wouldn't mind the Flames taking a look at Matt Nieto. Seems like a really decent option on the fourth line. My first choice is still Perry though for the cheap veteran signing.

They could retain salary on Hutton I guess. He's not worth what they're paying him so it makes sense.

Nieto re-signed with Sharks yesterday, it would have to be through trade.

Had to laugh at this. Sabres fans starting to figure to piece some things together. Hurry Treliving!

I do not love Reinhart, although I like him well enough, but after watching the Flames in the playoffs I probably wouldn't trade him for Monahan. I was really unimpressed with Monahan. He had zero intensity to his game and it was way too easy for the opponent to clear the zone when his line was on.
I would trade Reino for Gaudreau though

What does he bring to table that we don’t have? I don’t watch the Sabres but I recall his draft as high iq but nothing else elite.
I don’t think he plays with jam (could be wrong). Don’t get enamoured with draft position - players don’t always actualize projections even with scenery changes if the physical tools (speed, power, explosiveness, size) aren’t there.
I’d like to see skilled top line guys who bring some of those physical tools (plus tool box). Trade, sign, draft those guys and add them to CGY mix of hockey sense and compete
