Would a trade with Tampa make sense
Stamkos, Sergachev and Cal Foote for Gaudreau, Hannifin? Tampa may be giving up too much, but they like Vegas were/are in cap trouble.

Then what happens when Stamkos is injured all season

From 2014 onwards Stamkos had a knee injury, had surgery, missed a bunch of the season in 2016-2017. He then played nearly three more seasons before going out with a core muscle injury, returning too soon and having to have a second surgery.
It's two decent injuries but also not connected. Assuming you can be fairly confident that his latest surgery was a success, there's no reason to say he's any more injury prone than the average NHLer and far less than someone like Hall for example.
In any case, there's no need to try to talk the Flames out of that trade because it wouldn't happen in Treliving's dreams lol.
It certainly sounds like Treliving isn't finished making moves yet. He mentions to be in discussion with players and teams alike, mulling over options.
I know plenty have speculated that we will see Hanifin and Andersson together this year so Gio and Tanev can play together, but Treliving specifically mentions Tanev was a priority because how he played with Quinn Hughes and what he can do playing with and mentoring a young player.
Sounds like it wouldn't be a surprise to see Tanev play plenty of minutes with Valimaki or even Hanifin. It will be interesting to see how the minutes are split up this year.
Baffles me when people want to pencil in Mackey, who has never played a pro game yet, onto the NHL club and consider that a given, rather than a happy outlier.
You must not know many Oiler fans.

That could be great if Kylington is able to take a step this year and acclimate back to the right side effectively. Gio does have experience playing with a LHS on the right side and can somewhat shelter Kylington.
Could be a situation where there isn't a clearly defined 1st, 2nd, and 3rd pairing, but more of a balanced approach with players moving around and changing partners based on situation.
Skip to 24:29 for a preview of the Flame's hard hitting future top pairing
Also if you start at the Valimaki highlights a certain goaltender pops up a lot.
Noah Juulsen is waiver eligible this year, is he worth a late round pick to see if he can fit the 3rd pairing.
Tampa has a trio of waiver eligible forwards in Mathieu Joseph, Mitchell Stephens and Alex Volkov, who would be solid adds. Though if Tampa finds a way to clear some space though are probably relying on those guys as cheap depth options.
