Its always an option...a good option is debatable
Short term made zero sense for Calgary
Long term made sense with other good trades confirmed
a lot of moving parts

It certainly could, but I am pretty sure Hall will be after a long term contract next summer. I just don't see it happening. I also really hope that Dube, Valimaki, and Bennett will require raises this summer.
At this point I am actually curious to see a line of Dube/Mangiapane-Monahan-Lindholm. I really think that this team needs to figure out what is Monahan without Gaudreau during 5 on 5 hockey. I'm also curious why Lindholm made them less effective than Rieder during the playoffs.

Flames likely interested but have to get their ducks in a row. No point doing a risky spur of the moment trade to make that happen. At least now we have Goaltending addressed and can look at the best way to shed salary and make the team as strong as possible. A quick deadline trade is not ideal.

I'm more shocked and relived he turned down 6.5 in Colorado
Hall has played 14 playoff games in 10 seasons (and even some of those are play in round)
for 1.5M he decided not to go to a team like that?
A solid playoff run would certainly boost his stock for next season if that is the angle he is working

Agree.
I honestly don’t get this at all from Hall’s perspective.
If you want to take a short term deal to get an even bigger contract next year then why are you taking the 1 year deal in Buffalo of all places.
Also it’s not like playing with Eichel is a better situation to prove himself than playing with the Avalanche forwards.
And Colorado is probably the best place that can pay you decent money while still being a contender.
Honestly don’t get this at all from Hall’s perspective.

He will likely get both. The 8.5 million and get dealt to a contender at the deadline.

8.0
So he expects Buffalo to not even be in a playoff race even though he is having a great season? Very few teams are out of it at the deadline these days.

Glad he didn't sign with Avs, but still a peculiar decision. Maybe it really was because of Ralph Kruger.

There’s also always the option he just wanted to play in Buffalo. We’ve already heard he likes the coach, maybe he’s buddies with some guys on the team or has liked their facility, it’s close to home and family but not a high pressure market. Takes a one year deal to see how it goes because we’ve obviously struggled. It’s not always about win win win money money money. Maybe he thought the guys on the Avs are dicks and he really likes Krueger, and those were the only real offers.

Honest question...When can Buffalo sign him to an 8 year extension?
Is this actually a 9 year contract in Buffalo as that would make sense as to why he would go there

Hall will make $3.2 million after the 20% escrow and 50% tax rate in Buffalo. Tax Rate is probably lower but this keeps it simple. In Colorado it would have been 2.6 million assuming the same tax rate and escrow. Not really that much of a difference in the end. I would have signed in Colorado for the best chance at winning a championship.

It would be Jan 1 in a normal year, but who knows with this season, presumably around the half way point?
edit: actually he can sign up to a 7 year deal after Jan 1. He can't sign a 8 year deal until after the trade deadline.

If he signs an 8 year extension I will do a 180 on my take...although there are still injury concerns

I haven’t read through the thread but am I the only one who thinks Hall really wants to play for the Flames and is giving us one more year to clear salary and deal with th expansion draft?
I know this is a terrible barometer but if I was ever an NHLer as a Calgary boy I would most defiantly prioritize playing for the Flaming C at least once in my career.

I don’t think it has to do so much with the Flames. I think it is directly connected to the Seattle expansion. The expansion will essentially add another $80M in free cap space. It would give teams a lot more room to maneuver especially if they make deals with Seattle to free up cap space. Next year’s market would be a lot more friendly to players and agents as a result.
