This is exactly why it’s a smart move for him, and everyone clowning him doesn’t get it. He had a ####ty break having his big UFA year coincide with this crisis and he’s making a smart move to come back strong next year and sign the big ticket he wanted to sign this year. This move is only dumb if you actually think that NHL players value winning over their own fair market value, in which case LOL at you.

Well I definitely didn't see this coming! I'm not surprised he signed a 1 year deal, just surprised it's with Buffalo. He's not winning there, but I guess he could light it up with Eichel

Why is this signing making me really mad? I feel duped and it’s not because he did not pick the flames.

Not a big surprise once he decided to sign a one year deal.

Playing with Eichel is his best chance to put up a huge year.

I think most people would guess Hall is likely to get a smaller deal being a UFA next year than the largest deal he could get right now.

You could've made a lot of money if you put a prop bet on this.

unless he has a bad season or gets injured, or both

Also, why would anyone expect teams to have more money next season? Teams will be bleeding money..."normal" isn't happening anytime soon

How badly do we want a guy who really doesn't care about winning at all?

Smart move. Wait for your favourite (home-town) team to open up space in addition to having the Stone buyout off the books. Also gives your favourite hometown team one more space to protect a good teammate in the expansion draft.

This season is a shortened one anyway, and he can still be traded to a contender to play in the playoffs in the coming season.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Lol cool, I’ve never seen us actually the land “the” big fish, ever. Should be an interesting season, if he can find chemistry with Jack then that connection will be lethal.

Personally I’m not that upset. Just generally if they can use that money to sign the equivalent of a second liner and a legit dman, what else can be done? I do think Monahan and Gaudreau need to go for starters for a retool (ie: equivalent players from Philly, but I major moves need to be done. This team can’t go with the same roster minus the defence this year.

Is this about the time we start bashing a guy again, because we didn't get him?

Lol, you guys. He wanted to play close to home and gets to do it without having to play for the Leafs. He also gets 8 million to use Eichel to set himself up for his next long term deal when there’s a better chance of more $.

We did it for 6 years while he was an Oiler, it's as good a time to start again as any.
