Interesting. You would think a guy playing his way in to a possible 1A position, and in the playoffs would have been dialed in.

Definitely something to pay attention 2

Louis Domingue? Oh yeah, that goalie's responsible for Johnny scoring a goal which resulted in this beautiful photo that's too big to post.

Pretty good signing though.

Depending on the type of ankle injury, that could be significant.

Tough luck for the kid who's already battled through a lot of stuff so far in his pro career.

He also stood on his head in OT that game. One of the best OTs we've played and just couldn't score.

Remember when we thought that game was a preview of the SCF then both teams got clobbered in the first round?

Good times.

His approach in the bubble? Are you referring to Game 6 or something else?

The only good long term pieces there are markstrom, wolf and chechelev. The rest is just ahl talent aside from rittich who is now bound to be a salary cap casualty. I think things are still very fluid with the position personally. Wouldn't be suprised to see Domingue back up Markstrom which brings back bad memories of kiprusoff's terrible backups over the years.

Rittich is the backup, unless he craps the bed. Domingue is insurance, and AHL filler for a season of condensed schedules (NHL and AHL).

As for the others, my hopes/excitement would be ranked as follows:

Wolf
Parsons
Chechelev
Zagidulin

But none are close, obviously.

I know Tre said that Rittich will be the backup but GMs lie to the media all the time. I think he is out of favor in Calgary and will be dealt because the GM will want the 2.75m in cap space to address other issues. Rittich is basically average and is destined to play 20 games unless markstrom gets injured. Waste of 2.75m especially since the organization probably knows without markstom they would be hooped anyway with either Domingue or Rittich

Upcoming seasons compressed schedule has more to do with keeping BSD him to allow JM some much needed rest. Speculation is lots of back-to-backs or 3 games in 4 nights will require more games from a teams backup goalie. His 2.75 AAV is on the books for one more season and then likely packing his bags.

That's why Montreal got Jake Allen. Not to challenge Price for the #1.

Who knows. Cory Crawford was putting up mediocre stats at age 25 in the AHL in 2009-10 and then the next year is an NHL starter with better numbers.

Really don't think there is a tremendous amount of difference between domingue and rittich at the end of the day. Rittich has a penchant for melting down. His highs are higher but his lows are lower. He collapses at exactly the wrong time each year he's played. They could just sign another league average depth goalie and trade Rittich and be no worse off imo. Then they might be able to get mangi on a 5 year deal or something.

One team definitely responded to that clobbering better than the other.

Rittich will be hard to move IMO. Best bet is to see if he responds this year.

Yeah, he’s really inconsistent and his second half of the season was bad.

http://www.espn.com/nhl/player/gamel.../david-rittich

Treliving isn’t going to publicly say “we need to dump Rittich” and lose value. But if you trade him for picks to a team that’s going 1a 1b and then use Domingue, you might be able to get by and add more in terms of skaters.

Domingue’s 2019-2020 are a bad sample because he was hardly used. He was better previously as a more regular backup.

Didn't say they would get anything for him but I think the cap space he is owed would be much better spent on a long term deal for mangiapane who is looking more and more like an answer in the top 6.

I agree with that cap space argument.

I think maybe Rittich got a little too comfortable.

Hopefully he takes it as one to grow on.

Let's not forget that Rittitch went to the all star game last year. He still has to grow and mature but he still has the potential to be a quality NHL starter or 1a,1b goalie or at minimum a good nhl backup. Hopefully he learns from what happened last year and takes it as an opportunity to improve and show everyone what he is capable of on a consistent basis.
