In theory, Sign Mangiapne to 2x2.5 and Kylington 1x0.8. That leaves 1.01m, trade Ryan for a pick, any pick. Now you have 4.135m. Trade Rittich anywhere for a pick. Sign Dell for 1.25m
Now we have 5.635 to spend on Toffoli

I'd say Colorado is likely out.
Buffalo maybe? Close to Kingston, Eichel as his center. That's about it, I'd say.

Lucic ideally...though there isnt another GM in the league that would touch that contract. He is whats preventing a real run at Hall.
So that leaves Backlund (very unlikely), Ryan (possible but also doubtful) Bennett (also doubtful but likeliest of the 3 as he will get something in return more than Ryan) and Rittich.

Never thought of Buffalo. They have to make Eichel happy. What’s Buffalo cap situation like? I know they mandated an internal $70 million cap.

I doubt you can signMangiapane for 2..25 even for one year.
I doubt these days you can trade Ryan and Rittich for picks without taking salary back.
Plus you would need to spend at least 1M to replace Ryan’s spot.

Johnson was left unclaimed. And he’s 10 times the player of Lucic.

Guys there is no chance that Lucic waives. He has already said that the last couple of years in Edmonton were not enjoyable. He has finally found a spot where he likes it and is respected in the room. I doubt he wants to take a chance at moving again only not to enjoy the experience.

I would attach a first and a second to get rid of Lucic. That cap space is more valuable to us than a mid to late first round pick

I have a feeling that those teams who miss out on Hall will circle back to Calgary to ask about the availability of Gaudreau and Monahan. Both Nashville and Columbus have cleared out significant cap space looking for a difference maker. Both players could make an impact right away for a lower cap hit than Hall. Tre will be looking for assets but the cap space will mean more in the long term.

If a GM is willing to give those contracts, my suggestion is not that out there.

But it didn't happen dude! Admit you were wrong and keep it moving.

2.5, not 2.25 and considering Jesper Fast who plays a more well rounded game and is comparable offensively just signed for 3x2m as a UFA, it seems like a pretty reasonable amount.

First Line Centre

According to CapFriendly and my calculations, this would leave the Flames with a grand total of $185,834 in cap space. Therefore, unless the Flames make some trades, I think the roster is pretty well set. If so, this is the lineup I want to see.
Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Monahan - Backlund - Mangiapane (2.8M)
Lucic - Bennett - Dube
Robinson - Ryan - Gawdin (900K)
Rinaldo
Giordano - Andersson
Hanifin - Tanev
Valimaki - Kylington (900K)
Mackey (925K)
Markstrom
Rittich
I guess Petrovic will probably battle for the 6/7 spots too.
The Flames could really use another quality forward. Ryan and Rittich look like the players the Flames could move to create cap space to add two forwards or one forward and a goalie respectively. It'll never happen, but I just want to know what the price to move Lucic would be. I'm curious.
Moving Rittich is probably a complete pipe dream. Anaheim is the only team that could use a goaltender, and they might have a goalie I don't know about. Plus, Jimmy Howard is still out there.
Moving Ryan would probably be much easier.

Is it just me or is Mangiapane getting to be a little overrated? 2.8m? Really?

There was a good article (well, at least I thought so) on Flamesnation going over Mangi's next contract and recent comparables
https://flamesnation.ca/2020/07/03/m...e-comparables/
I think he gets around 3 x 3

Realistically a Mangiapane contract should be 2 years, or 5/6 years ala Rasmus Andersson.

Thanks I'll have a read. I just don't see him as ~3m player. He is pretty one dimensional. I would pay 2x2.4 max
