While I agree that the Flames wouldn't do it, trading Rittich and Ryan opens up more space than trading Hanifin (the post I quoted).

I will say that I am pleased with Markstrom and Tanev moves.
However, it will be incredibly frustrating and disappointing if the same forward core group comes back. That just can't happen after the past few years of them not doing enough. I don't know if that means signing Hall but it does mean some sort of significant change.

Lazy response. Flames have been linked to have the players this off season. Doesn’t mean anything. They have no money to spend on a big free agent.

Vegas has just over $1M in cap-space and off after Pietrangelo.
Trades happen.

Was just going to say this.
Vegas has Pietro in for a visit today, he's looking at $8-9 million AAV and they have almost no cap space.
Cap can be cleared afterwards.

Sportsnet tracker has Caroline re-signing Joey Keane. 3 years, 6 million. That cant' be right, can it? He's a good prospect but he has yet to play an NHL game.

But you agree that teams with no cap space have a much lower chance of signing the big fish, right?
I highly doubt Vegas signs Pietrangelo. Just as I highly doubt the Flames sign, well, any top 6 forwards.
Could be wrong, especially since Vegas tends to love making big moves. Guess we'll see.

Barrie betting on himself doesn't make me wrong.
Next time you want to be petty, at least have all the facts.

Barrie didnt turn down a $6M contract. You are quoting an Edmonton media person that is likely referencing a 2x3M deal vs a 1 x 3.5M deal. There is no way a player takes half to be with Edmonton. Your 5 x5 and 6x6 was crazy and its shocking to me that you would stand by it. It will be good for you to see Barrie actually play....if you are able to be honest with yourself...you will change your mind.

No kidding, what happens if you trade guys first and then he doesn't sign
Calgary has players they could easily move... especially when other teams miss out on ufas

Definitely not right, Joey Keane still has two years of ELC left.
They recently signed Jesper Fast to a 3 years 6 million contract though.

Listening to Ryan Leslie and maybe this is from earlier in the day, but he seems to think the trade market for impact forwards is going to be awfully quiet now.
Those hoping for a change in the team’s core may end up disappointed.
I am interested if people think Flames have done enough as of now or if more changes needed to become a contender.

The problem though is you don't appear to have the foresight to see how turning down money to play in the right situation can massively affect his future earnings.
If Barrie takes 1x6 in say Vancouver, gets PP2 time because they have Hughes, he's looking at a another 35-45 point season. What does his next contract look like? 5x4-4.5?
If Barrie takes the Edmonton offer and foregoes 2.25m now and puts up 65-70 points, he could be looking at 6.5-7 over 5-7 years, potentially gaining 10m+
It's a risk, but it's pretty obvious this is what he is doing.
|
There is no question that he took a one-year deal as a prove-it contract. Even with my lack of foresight, that is plain to see.
That does not mean he turned down $6M though.
Pro tip: people will take you more seriously if you can make your point without insulting others

When you look at how the same core group of forwards has performed now across several playoff series, there's absolutely no question that doing nothing is a mistake. They simply are not, and have not been, good enough.

Yeah your last point rings true. If someone is going to post a hundred times a day, it would be nice if half of those posts weren't insults or personal comments. It’s ridiculous.

Is it down to the Blue Jackets, Preds and Habs for Hall now?

It's going to be a competitive team. They should be a playoff team because they were last season and on paper they improved just by adding a legit #1 goaltender.
IMO they are not a top 5 team in the league or an odds on Cup favorite. They are going to have to catch lightning in a bottle and get hot at the right time to win a Cup.
There was no chance they were going to blow it up and rebuild, so it is what it is.

I was quoting members of the national media in Frank Seravelli and Darren Dreger actually. But you're welcome to keep your head in the sand.

Honestly, if I were a betting man I'd put money on Hall signing the Duchene contract in Nashville and reuniting with Hynes.
