Icon59 Oilers sign Tyson Barrie (1 yr, $3.75 mil)

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
It’s looking like the Oilers and Tyson Barrie are closing in on a 1 year agreement. Being finalized. Likely just shy of $4 mil.

A defenseman that doesn't play defense. Still no goalie.

I guess they're just going to try to outscore all their problems? It's worked out so well for them before.

Wow, other offers must have been brutal. That's not a bad AAV, but the fact that he was only willing to sign for 1 year is telling

Not that much else will matter without a goalie

Just what the Oilers need, more players who can't defend.

Tyson Barrie turned down more money elsewhere to join the #Oilers, including a $6 million offer.

Gotta laugh at the Oiler Improving their 'defence' by adding the a one dimensional powerplant specialist.

That's a really good contract, I would have liked that on the Flames

I think Barrie is better than Brodie, but I hope I'm proven extremely wrong

Must have been nothing else out there, he's only willing to stay for a year.

Didn't see that coming.

is it just me, or does this deal seem like its not even close to what Barrie or the Oilers wanted?

Only one year, for 4 mil? I don't get it.

Put up 80 pts passing the pick up to McDavid. Sign monster contract next year somewhere else lol.

Don’t get it though the Oilers must think if all 5 players on the ice play offence they won’t need any D? It’s confusing.

Really have a hard time believing this. "Turned down more money to move to Edmonton"...ok buddy

I guess they will just try and win every game 6-5.

I just dont get it.

Holland has always valued good D play...and here he is doing everything but addressing that.

Weird.

Pretty obvious isn't it?

One year to prop your stats up with McDavid and Draisatl in an environment that won't hold you to play defense, sign a big long term deal with another team when the market is better.

Every other team wanted term, he wants to wait to hit UFA again when the cap starts going up again and he can make a proper payday

A one year deal. This is a "I'm going to score a #### ton of points on the PP with McHobo and German Gretzky, and that is going to lead to someone paying me major cake next off season. And I only have to be in Edmonton for a compressed season!" Edmonton just keeps finding ways to spin its wheels.
