Not to give support to a Hanifin trade but isn't the Markstrom acquisition the hedge to having a little more youth, a little less salary on your NHL team?
Also perhaps the Markstrom signing allows Ward to play a style less defensive as he insisted during the playoffs? That defensive insistence was perhaps because of Talbot - and it detracted from the team being able to play offense they way they can.

Pietrangelo is visiting Vegas today. F'off Knights.
Chris Johnston @reporterchris
Alex Pietrangelo is on a plane to Las Vegas today -- the kind of visit free agents used to be able to make during the interview window before the signing period opened.

I would think, they have possible trades worked out.
My guess, Nate Schmidt

Schmidt at 5.95 x 5 might be tough to move.

I really hope teams start taking the screws to Vegas over their cap situation. They've been getting a free ride so far.

They'd have to do more than that to fit Pietrangelo. Schmidt and Machessault would have to go unless some idiot team (read: Edmonton) bails them out of Fleury for nothing.

They will trade Fleury to the stupid Oilers who will let them off the hook.

Winnipeg is the start to Vegas getting another weapon. Only Scotty Bowman will be able to coach that team the way it's trending.

Yup and they are exempt from the expansion draft. I know they don't get a cut but I would rather they did and the process be more fair. A SC contending team right out of the gate should not get that extra help.

No one expected Vegas to be this good before they came into the league and you can't change the rules for expansion draft exemption after the fact. As for teams "helping" Vegas with their cap, I mean they have good players and every GM believes their own team got better after acquiring those players from Vegas...each GM can only control how they improve their own team.

Have their been many rumours on Toffoli, or does everyone seem to feel that's someone teams target after Hall goes?

I did. With how strict the protection rules were it was pretty obvious they could build a strong team right out of the gate, that is why the league did it that way. The NHL dropped the ball here. Of course you can't change the rules now but that never should have happened. Does the Vegas ownership need a cut of the expansion fee? Not at all they are laughing all the way at the fact they don't have to expose anyone. Look at the schedule Vegas had in their first season with almost all home games to start the year. The NHL wants a SC in Vegas big time.

Well, to be honest he’s probably their best goalie option at this point. But I don’t see him waiving to go there.

He apparently said last night that the Flames are one of the teams in on him.

I can't see the Flames being in on any more free agents until something happens with Ryan, either a trade or waivers.

It definitely helped that they didn't have any albatross contracts to anchor then down. Must have been nice to start with a clean slate. On the other hand they didn't really make any terrible decisions either...like signing aging UFAs to anchor contracts. Overall I like how they built their team, and I don't know if any neutral fan would be too upset if they won a cup, especially fans not in this division.
