Oh god. I haven't felt this sad about losing a player since Iggy left. Man, never thought I'd see the day Brodie would play in silks other then the Flaming C. Thought he'd be one of the very few Flames players (are their even any?) who got to play his entire career with Calgary.

That's a pretty good contract too. Excellent term and caphit. Leafs hit a homerun with that signing.

Be nice to him TO. When Brodie is on his game he will bring an extra dimension to your backend that will bring you sweet joy. Your top stars are going to love skating with him. But if he has a gaff or 2, don't you dare plaster his face on the front page and crap all over him. He's a great dude and doesn't deserve to be treated like that.

Thanks for the memories Brodie. There have been plenty. I'll never forget Hartley being your biggest fan and always saying when you entered the league that you'd never know how good you could be. I know now that the Flames' are going to miss you from game 1 onward.

Sad day for this Flames' fan

Exactly. Unlike another guy that quit on his team and is a current UFA. Brodie was a true competitor and gave his all.

Players always say this stuff.

We don’t know what Calgary offered Brodie.

I'm really looking forward to watching him play because you guys seem to legit love the guy. And Leafs need more players like that. A lot of "no hearts" on this team. If he is like you say he will be a fan favourite here too.

He'll be the best partner Reilly has ever had. Great add for the Leafs

Sadly I think he'll also undeservadly be a whipping boy that fans turn on quick.

I am really mixed on Brodie. I thought was a bit polarizing with his play, flashes of some offence but never really delivering, able to exit or outlet the zone but susceptible to a costly turnover. The biggest loss is that he was able to play the right side. Tanev is really a Hamonic replacement. I am not going to miss his play on the ice, thought he was a great guy in the community and wish him luck in Toronto. His departure really will give the defence a new look and hopefully a better result when the dust settles.

Maybe. But fans didn't turn on Barrie and he was pretty bad. I feel like the fans just want a steady partner for Reilly.

I hope he can do it.

It's funny because I joined this site after the Phaneuf trade and now the Leafs have gotten another Flames Dman.

As a Leafs fan I'm hoping this works out better than the Phaneuf period (but by all accounts Phaneuf was a great guy on the team he just never could live up to the expectations)

I actually like Phaneuf the person. He seems like a really good guy and he cared.

The Dman was who the prime whipping boy in Toronto was Gardiner. And it was mainly because his mistakes always seemed to result in goals (and big ones at that). He basically got booed out of town.

No, no. You are just a victim of human emotion and not using advanced stats to make your judgments like a smart hockey person.

Did I do that right?

Think the NMC was the dealbreaker. Treliving still unwilling to expose one of his young d-men in expansion.

Brodie certainly under appreciated here the last few years after a bad season, fans looking for a scape goat and and the same fans then playing the telephone game about how bad he was. His puck moving and skating was effortless throughout his time here, and they style allows the Flames to press high on the forecheck and activate the defenses which won them the Western Conference two seasons ago. It also allowed him to be a a more solid defensive defenseman.

Flames will miss him if someone does not replace that accurate puck moving.

If he had to go anywhere, good to be close to his family with his condition and his health scare last year.

I still remember the hub bub whether he was going to keep his training camp number (66) in the regular season, triggering all sorts of "traditionalists" for a few days.

If Barrie is the bar, fans will love Brodie!

Specifically to the task of playing with Reilly, Brodie is perfectly suited. His play allowed Gio to be more offensive. His defensive game is under-rated. His ability to transition through the neutral zone is elite, as is his skating.

His biggest weakness is in the offensive zone - no shot, and not much vision (carries the puck around and then dumps it in the corner a lot, because he can't find an outlet). But Reilly can take care of that.

Brodie will take care of everything else.

Like most big minute puck possession D-men, he can be divisive.

But yeah, I think especially with that contract people see going to like him.

It was concerning when Brodie collapsed at practice. There have been some very high profile deaths amongst young sportspeople when similar things happened.

At that point I thought the best we could hope for was that his career was over but that he would survive and be there for his family.

Not only did he survive it, he came back strong and played some of his best hockey for years.

It sucks that he has ended up in Toronto, but I can only wish nothing but the best for him personally.

The next day, and I’m still sad about Brodie no longer being with the flames. A solid get for the leafs though, who were shallow on D. I really hope the media doesn’t rip him to shreds, like they tend to do with every single player that pulls on their jersey.

Yeah I plan on including Brodie in my season videos still to finish off his Flames career. Just working on pulling highlights from the last 3 Dallas games...
