Colorado, Nashville and Columbus have almost 50 million in cap space between the 3 of them. All have been rumored to be interested.
Calgary would have to move out 2 major contracts to get it done.
I don't think there's any potential.
However, I think there's enough space to sign Mangiapane to a longer deal, which would be nice.
I hope they avoid another bridge contract.

Maybe they still plan to move Hanifin once the UFA dust settles.
I guess it depends on how confident they are with Valimaki, Kylington and Mackey.

Well we are out on Hall if we ever had a chance that sucks. Would have taken Barrie over Tanev

Yes, by 10%. So we could still easily sign Hall.
...and honestly, we better.
|
Agreed. Why trade Gaudreau or another player without signing Hall?.. I still have some hope. Now that the goalie and defense is sort of done, time to bring in a top forward who can make a difference in the playoffs.

Yeah, you can go over by 10% I think. But that really puts pressure on the team to clear space and sell players at a discount (or lose them on waivers completely).

It’s like a trade is impossible to some of these people.

So Markstrom, Tanev and Petrovic in.
Talbot, Brodie and Hamonic out.
Not factoring in the rentals from the deadline.
Does the upgrade in net make up for the step down on D? Because all newly signed UFA’s, the cap situation is worse so far.

I don't know. I think that depends.. if the Flames make Gaudreau available.. I think the market will balance itself out. There will still be a bidding war because there are 30 other teams and many will want to acquire him.
I think its a lot more difficult if you are trying to get rid of cap dumps.
That being said, I am feeling more of a blockbuster hockey trade deal involving the Flames instead of a Hall signing.

You can only analyze what the team has done so far. Are you saying they need to make a trade for these moves to be a success?

Replace the "Petrovic in" part with "Valimaki in" instead and the D change becomes an upgrade as well IMO.

I wonder if they have some sense of the probability of Hall signing - perhaps based on a zoom meeting with him or something. It does seem like Hall is considering a lot of different options and perhaps was less likely to sign here as once thought.
I would like to see some changes in the forward ranks though.

First Line Centre
|
The shake-up is still coming...
Sam Bennett & Noah Hanifin were on their way to New Jersey.
Oliver Kylington was supposedly offered up.
Derek Ryan now finds himself on the 4th line, yes a team needs four good centres but he is more than a 4th liner.
David Rittich needs to play more than 20 odd games, Artyom Zagidulin is a year older than BSD was when he first broke in his 20 NHL games.

I'm looking forward to seeing some of the younger defensemen play.
Defense might be worse for a year, but it might be good for development.
I wouldn't be surprised if Markstrom makes up for the D losses.
However, yes, the cap situation is now much worse.

I don't see Tavev as a downgrade personally.
The real question is whether Gio can bounce back next season. If he can't, none of these signings will mean anything.

I’m saying the assessment needs to be at the end of the day. I figure Treliving is gonna clear some cap via a Ryan trade at least.
As for right now, there was a massive upgrade in goal and a sideways/maybe slight downgrade on D, though Valimaki coming in is likely going to offset that.

Agreed. In my opinion, you can't go into a third straight year with the same forward group. Changes should definitely be made.

BSD will get lots of games in a compressed schedule and we need to keep the tandem for next year.
I could see the other players you mention being traded. I also would add Mangipane who had a fairly lengthy contract negotiation last summer where his agent was try to get an offer sheet

That’s a good exchange.
And I don’t know anything about Petrovic.
