Hmm. I wonder if a Savard for Ryan swap makes sense for both teams.

I'd be OK with the following players on decent/cheaper contracts: Barrie, Tanev, Stetcher

Would love a trade for: Savard or Phillipe Myers.

Hey look on the bright side. Hamonic was acquired for a 1st and 2x2nds and we got nothing for him and he didn't even play in this years "playoffs". Things can be worse!

Happy for Brodie. Getting scared with Hamonic still available.

Gross. It's painful when our likeable UFA's go to loathsome teams.

Does Tkachuk claim #7 now, or does he stick with #19?

Who do we replace him with.

Tanev and Barrie are options but extremely meh options.

Hamonic is like the girl that would blue ball you then broke up with you before you could break up with her. Don't even touch that phone dial.

I don’t see Brodie as a shutdown guy, frankly, unless by necessity like the Flames have done.

IMO Brodie trends as a second pairing guy, and that was going to be the stage between he and Gio going forward. Hanifin and Rasmus are going to assume a bigger role.

I don't think a Hanifin/Andersson pairing are ready for #1 pairing minutes next season. I also don't think Tanev or Barrie have the overall game to play top pairing with Gio.
There is only one other UFA who can fill that role adequately...

Well, it wasn't unexpected. The rumors earlier in the season were the deals to Toronto, so maybe where there was some smoke there was some interest in going there. If I'm being fair the guy is a borderline 1st pairing dman. In a year were D are at a premium, I can see why he was paid what he was paid, but it's a little much for essentially a second pairing dman. That's not to say he didn't sign for what he was worth, but on the Flames I don't think they could go there, and I'm frankly a little surprised the Leafs were able to. Oh well, I hope he is thick skinned because his giveaways will certainly be harped on a little bit.

I think those two are entering into the time when they push into #1 pairing. I think Gio/Brodie probably held them back a bit. But call it a 1a 1b if you like. Certainly in the POs Hanifin/Andersson were taking over the top billing.

I also think that Gio is capable of a better season and that there are quite a few guys who can mesh with him.

I am guessing Treliving didn't want to give that NMC.Term and AAV are reasonable

Good point about asset management.

I would have preferred we took steps to protect Brodie and not Gio. Gio may be on the decline and might be worth something now on the market. Much like Iggy, I love Gio I think he is a leader on the team, but Gio won't be worth as much if he declines quickly.

Really sad to see him go. He was a calming presence on the back end for most of his career here, and I think was incredibly underrated around the league. Now that he's going to the center of the universe, maybe he'll be recognized for how good be really is.
