Brodie ain’t taking a pay cut. Barrie would, it seems but I think he realizes he’s in show me territory.

All the better IMO. Though I realize most disagree with me, I just think that Gio will be able to shelter Barrie just as well as he did brodie, while Barrie will bring a huge offensive punch we lack. Hanifin-Andersson showed they can act as a pair just fine!

I still think the biggest barrier for Brodie here is that he probably wanted assurances or a NMC to be protected from expansion.

If Barrie is really coming as cheap as around 4m that's great and I think a good grab, would still prefer brodie but I feel he has priced himself out of the club. I think this is going to be Kylington's show me year. Put him on the right side with Valimaki on his left and give him an actual chance this year.

Just for the sake of conversation a Derek Ryan buyout would be a savings of $2,083,333 and a cap hit of
2020 $1,041,667
2021 $1,041,667

I highly doubt a buyout will be necessary. Florida still needs forwards, as does Ottawa. this guy is cheap and produces, someone will take a flyer.

I would trade Ryan for a 4th round pick in a heartbeat. $3,125,000 in cap savings would give the Flames the flexibility they need to either shore up their D or bring in a legit top 6 winger. As it stands now the Flames have only about 4M to throw around.

Do we still need Ryan now? If we are giving Bennett a decent chance as a centre for the third line, he is overpaid for a 4th line centre. Gawdin should be given a chance to play a cheap 4th line centre.

Ryan will still log 14+ minutes a night between penalty kill and "late game" scenarios.
4Cs need to be good too. Matt Cullen was the Penguins' 4C on their last couple cups and might have been their fourth most important forward after the three star players.

Exactly this.
Only reason to move Ryan is to improve the team in a higher-need position (like to free up cap for some scoring help up front, or add a top-4 defenceman).

Bennett was our #6 PKer in 2016-17 and Chiasson the #7. Stajan, Bouma and Brouwer all played significantly more per game and they were a pretty middle of the pack PK

A Ryan buy out is not impossible.
Flames have $10 million cap space to add about 8 players.
5 forwards (which includes Mangiapane)
3 defense (which includes Kylington)
Mangiapane is going to eat up around $3 million of that I'm guessing.
Kylington will probably just get his QO of $787,500
That leaves a shade over $6 million for 3 F and 2 D.
I'll be pretty shocked if they don't land at least one more big name UFA, and if it's Taylor Hall they are going to have to clear some major cap out somehow.

A single 39 point season when he had the lowest amount of PP time he's ever had as an NHL regular puts him in show me territory?

I made a cap friendly with Hall at 8m. The defence looked awful. Had Kylington on the second pair right side. Without moving Lucic who I moved down to the 4th line, it wouldn't work. Perhaps he is more moveable now that another year is gone. Who knows, but that is the only way I see a hall signing.

Stockton, most likely.
