Indifferent but he is a legit number 1, age is ok, and that's who the organization has tied their horse to for 4 to 6 years, so obviously hope for the best and some playoff series wins each year.
Wonder what this means for Rittich. I'd cut bait with him, the mental side of the game is a shambles and defeats him far too easily and quickly these past two seasons when January rolled around.

A buy out on Markstrom with two years remaining isn't that bad.
I mean, hopefully they don't have to do that, but I've seen way worse.
Year 1 - $3,666,667
Year 2 - $3,666,667
Year 3 - $1,666,667
Year 4 - $1,666,667
With one year left it's:
Year 1 - $3,666,667
Year 2 - $1,666,667

Hopefully Rittich is okay with it, but having a solid backup like him would be fantastic. Especially if Markstrom gets injured and misses time like he has the last few years

I like this singing.
For me I wanted him because he passes the eye test. Then I heard the interview this morning on the Fan, the guys name escapes me, but it was super intriguing and he was basically suggesting that there were some underlying numbers that suggested Markstrom be a really good fit with the Flames and the way they like to defend.
More importantly it adds to our already impressive stable of attractive Swedes.
The Flames were in a spot to take a chance on a Goalie with a big contract. Rittich kinda showed last year that he's a 1B, even if he ends up being a really good 1B. Plus there isn't a whole lot in the system pushing as the Flames best goalie prospects are still YEARS away from being ready. There's definitely risk involved like with any long term signing, but I think this is a good and reasonable gamble for a team to take.
Plus the attractive Swede thing.

Haha. I pop in to see the temperature around here about snagging the top FA goalie on the market and we are already talking about what the buy out looks like!
Is it PTSD or are we just in that dark of a place as Flames fans?

Has Pepsi given this his seal of approval?

Goalies are so unpredictable, he looks like a upgrade and this year it seems like goaltending will not be the major question mark heading into training camp. It has been many years since that has been the case. I hope mid season or in year two that does not become the question. Overall I am happy with the signing and look forward to what else Treliving does.

TSN's Bio on the guy has this:
Career potential - Towering, talented goaltender.
Towering? Check.
Talented? Check.
Goaltender? Well, that's a matter of opinion.
Markstrom is a towering, talented Flame. That much is obvious.

Tre's had some bad contracts handed out in the past. That + 30 years of mediocrity will make anyone on edge about a 6x6 handed to a 30 year old player.

I heard that too, and it was an interesting breakdown of analytics re. what kind of chances the Flames allow.
If memory serves, the Flames allow fewer screened, slot-line and odd-man chances than average. They surrender more perimeter and slot chances than most, and Markstrom is very strong at stopping perimeter shots (ie. he doesn't give up many bad goals) and slot shots. Sounds like he's a good fit.

What was the original Calgary Tower's name? I know he was European (Swedish too, I think)...

People are just cynical after so many mediocre years, so many mediocre goalies and the way big previous UFA signings have worked out.
I think if you put it to a yes or no, almost everyone would agree it's a good deal all things considered.
It's just hard to get people excited anymore.

It's just the timing. The structure of the contract was only recently posted and the signing bonuses in the last couple of years are there as a bit of buyout protection for the player, so it's only natural to discuss that context.
