Weird interview between David Amber and Cam Talbot just now. Amber asks Cam if he has heard of any other goalie rumors, where they may go. Then asks him to stay tuned to Signing Season as Talbot is trying to get off the phone.

So what were the Flames thinking in making their offer to Talbot? That would not have been in lieu of Markstrom, would it?

Did they see him as Markstrom's backup?

That contract seems a bit high for Talbot. Still all the best to him, his play with Calgary and specifically the improvement after leaving Edmonton probably scared a lot of FA goalies away.

Kristen Anderson @KdotAnderson
Cam Talbot says #Flames goalie coach Jordan Sigalet was "instrumental" in his resurgence.

Wanted a goalie change so glad this happened. All the best to Cam Talbot as he landed a nice contract to finish off his career.

But that doesn't fit the narrative that Sigalet is the devil incarnate!

Phew, I'm glad the Flames is close to signing Markstrom instead! I'm not one bit sad

I hear you. I mean if the goal is Markstrom AND they also offered Talbot that money, where does that leave Rittich. Doesn't add up that they offered that money to Talbot, because I'm pretty sure the plan is Markstrom.

Happy for the Talbots who seem like such great people with the endless work they do in the community. Talbot playing for both the Flames and Oilers yet being loved by both fanbases is a pretty good sign and the family should feel proud of that.

What a great, improbable, story, too. A decade ago, Talbot was playing hockey for the University of Alabama-Huntsville of all places. Fast forward ten years and he's just signed his second eight-figure contract. Awesome.

Just watched TSN "deal or no deal" bit. They called Markstrom's signing a solid "deal" and Talbot's – a "no deal". Said that Talbot is worth $2M/2years and that Minnesota overpaid/oversigned him.
