I hope calgary did their research on the severity of Markstroms injuries before this potential 7 year term.

that's how negotiations work

Mackenzie is awesome, but that doesn't mean that every single thing he speculates is exactly right

I'm thinking the Avs are a snake in the grass here.

Rumored to be in on Crawford but maybe holding off to see if they can sneak in on Markstrom.

Outside the box!

He has a contract up to mid January in the last year!

I also appreciate everyone is trying to break the story.
I don't think that this is at all clear. I think it is much more likely that both Markström and the Flames have eliminated all other options and identified that they would get a deal done. That likely prompted the news that he has signed in Calgary. Since then, both parties have been negotiating term and dollars. It is obvious that both parties want to work out a deal.

I was thinking this same thing. He’s basically “traded down” again by delaying, and might end up with a better contract. His patience is his strength, as many times as its bit him.

To me the value of finally locking up this position is far greater to the Flames as opposed to Yet another 1-2 year bandaid and two to three headed goalie monsters

Brad is a strong negotiator. I think he's grinding down that dollar and term as much as possible.

I think he learned from green lighting previous UFA proposals on the table too soon.

Exactly ... as I said earlier.

This is more grave for the Markstrom the longer it goes on.

Agreed

A potential buyout in 2026 is worth it to finally get this core the #1 goalie they deserve

And the more forwards the oilers splurge on the less likely they can jump in with any kind of competitive offer.

The fact that Edmonton hasn’t signed a goalie leads me to believe that their offer of 7 years at around $5.5M is still on the table.

If the Oilers sign a goalie the dynamic shifts.

Oilers don't have any cap space. Doubt they are big fish shopping on the Goalie market

They're signing away all of the cap space so fast they don't even have room to sign good d men which they really need.

I doubt it. Most likely, they have been negotiating the whole time since Markström and Calgary both identified that they want to make a deal.
