I think if the Oilers were short of space they would probably just match it anyways, and worry about shuffling players around later. The only way they are in danger of losing Bear to an offer sheet is if it is a Josh Anderson sort of crippling overpayment.
Then again, I keep reading on the other board about all the NHL-ready defensive talent Edmonton has just sitting there, ready to jump into the lineup.

None of those 1sts will make a difference over the next 5 / 6 years for CBJ. If you get Barzal, you do it. They've got a good enough scouting department to keep the train moving from 2nd round on.

I hope you are right. I can just as easily see Tre being the guy left standing with his junk tossing in the wind, as you said. And of course, the inevitable “we were in on a lot of guys” when the roster looks the same on Tuesday as it does now, minus Brodie.

If you do 5 x $10M that's only 2 1sts, 2nd, 3rd .
Islanders don't even have the space for that, and Lou probably wouldn't match on principle knowing him.
