I'm sure you will hear it once they actually break ground and the opening is approaching.

If anyone is listening to the Fan, a huge data dump happening that shows:
- Talbot is a bad fit for us given the type of shots we give up
- Markstrom would absolutely kill it here. His strengths line up with the type of shots we give up.
- MAF would be a bad fit
I want Markstrom, don't care about the 7th year. If it requires 7, then go 7.

I was half listening, but it really sounded like Holtby would also be a good option in Calgary.

Yeah, I don't think he did too big of a dive on Holtby, but he also said Holtby wants to be here.
I honestly think we're going to see Holtby in one Alberta city, and Markstrom in the other.
Lebrun says Flames have interest in Khudobin.
I really want the endless goaltending changes to end. This team has crap goaltending, and you know what would be VERY Calgary Flames? Overpaying for a playoff performance, because our pro scouts suck.

The Simmonds stuff doesn’t bug me simply because - before he was either gonna cost assets in a trade (and he was making far too much) or it was going to be not worth what he was asking (see NJD).
If he is in at Rinaldo money or even a couple hundred K more I’m not seeing much issue.

Okay Flames fans stand down from Simmonds watch
Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
Hearing that Wayne Simmonds has narrowed his list to two teams and I believe those two teams are Toronto and Montreal. Remember Buffalo gave his camp the right to speak to teams this week ahead of the market opening.

how important is it to have Stanley Cup pedigree? Makes me lean towards Holtby, Fleury, and Pietrangelo (fantasy) over Markstrom, Hall, Barrie etc
Flames need impactful playoff experience

I made a couple of posts on this the other day around save percentage by shot type, and the save percentages both Markstrom and Holtby have in this area.
Markstrom would fit a little better based on stats over the last three years...the only thing with Holtby is I do wonder if Washington tends to give up a different type of grade A chance.
Their goalies have had a lower HDSV% for years, and he's still really good when it comes to Medium Danger and Low Danger chances.

Over the last three seasons:
Holtby:
HDSV%: .806 (54th)
MDSV%: .923 (17th)
LDSV%: .977 (12th)
Holtby Goals Saved Above Expectation Trend: https://twitter.com/chartinghockey/s...296126464?s=21
So the question with Holtby is if the High Danger has something to do with how Washington is playing, or if his athleticism has taken a hit.
Markstrom is a guy that has been a bonafide starter now over the last three seasons but I’m still not sure he’s elite. His best attribute seems to be that he’s consistent.
HDSV: .835 (22nd)
MDSV: .923 (17th)
LDSV: .968 (41st)
Markstrom Goals Saved Above Expectation Thread: https://twitter.com/chartinghockey/s...834898946?s=21
So that is comparing the best three years of Markstroms career vs the worst three years of Holtby’s. Honestly I’d be a bit worried about either guy, Holtby for high danger saves, Markstroms been a guy that’s had some low danger goals against issues for his career.
And based on Moneypuck’s logic they actually had Holtby better than Markstrom in 17-18 and 18-19, they only have Markstrom as better in 19-20 So their is risk either way IMO.

Over the last three seasons Flames have given up:
HDSA: 1375 (4th least)
MDSA: 1510 (19th)
LDSA: 2364 (9th)
Based on Holtby’s numbers the Flames would have given up 437 goals over the last three seasons.
Based on Markstroms numbers over that time they would have given up 419 goals.
So based on the actual shots against the Flames gave up and the save percentage for these goalies Markstrom would have been better by ~18 goals than Holtby. Of course no goalie is playing all the games, so more like 12 goals better if you assume 65% of the starts.
I generally agree with you though. Give me the goalie that saves low danger and medium danger goals but maybe doesn’t make a huge save over the goalie that maybe makes a huge save but let’s in a softy.
Just for reference the Actual Flames goalies gave up 453 goals against.

Dreger on TSN reiterating the Flames interest in Barrie.
Speculates his price is likely $5.5-$6M.

Am I crazy? I think Barrie is worse than Brodie. Would rather keep Brodie.

I'd say Barrie is a Hamilton (as a Flame) comparable. Worse than Brodie defensively, significantly better offensively.

They are comparable in my opinion, Barrie with more offensive upside, and I’d give the defensive nod to Brodie.

Nope. I agree.
Although one rumour is Barrie is willing to take a 1-2 year "show me" type deal, so maybe that's it.

Probably a worse defenceman but a better offensive threat. There is no actual PP QB on the roster, he’d fill a specific need.
