Yeah there are rumours of 7 x $5M or 7 x $5.5M out there it seems.

I think Calgary goes 6 years so I’d be going to want the extra year?
Then Frank Serivali has the Oilers after Hall as well. This team has no cap space and tons of holes to fill yet they are somehow in on 2 of the top 3 free agents?

I bet the Oilers offer will be better than the Flames and he'll still take the Flames deal.

Kevin Woodly from In Goal magazine is making a very strong case for signing Markstrom on Pinder's show. He is also making a surprising argument for Braden Holtby as a competent backup plan, saying that Washington has had the worst expected save-percentage in the entire League for two straight years. In other words, Holtby has been a good deal better than his numbers over that span. Holtby wants wants to be out West.

Flames circled back to Cam Talbot's camp late last night but all signs indicate the goalie heading to the UFA market. I wonder about Dallas as a potential fit for Talbot. Also my understanding is the Flames have interest in Anton Khubodin among other UFA netminders...

I think Markstrom is an Oiler by the end of the day.

CGY and pending UFA D T.J. Brodie, a left shot who plays the right side, have had more contract talks in the last hour but weren’t able to get a deal done. Unless things change before noon, expect Brodie to go market.

Okay, even the pro-Markstrom people here must agree that 7 years is crazy, right?

I'd love to see the Flames get Markstrom on a better deal that what the Oilers offered.
Then, when they interview him after he signs with us, tell everyone that Milan Lucic called him to tell him to sign with us. We'd all hear the sounds of Oiler fans head explode from the north. Epic trolling.

I'm more concerned with this team establishing a winning culture, then worrying about maintaining it 6 years from now.
Become something worth maintaining before worrying about maintaining it. If Tree doesn't find a long-term high-end goaltending solution, he'll have failed to do his job at a high level.

This. We have some bargain contracts on the books for 2 years. Strike while the iron is hot and add someone legitimate if you can.

Fair, but I would argue that the effects of large albatross contracts are greater than the effects of potential winning cultures.
The Flames have made the playoffs in 3/4 years without long term goaltending anyways.
Goaltending hasn't really been what has prevented them from getting past round 1.

We'll be in a rebuild in 7 years, so I don't think it would be too crazy based on that.
