I don't mind Simmonds in the bottom 6, as long as he is paid appropriately. Gotta be a better option than Zac Rinaldo

I actually like OEL, but a Norris caliber Defenseman? It ain't 2013 anymore Barca and Dim Jim doesn't have a time machine.

Simmonds would be cheap. We’re talking 1 year around 1-2 million. Depending on what Treliving has up his sleeve this wouldn’t be awful on the 4th line with Looch.
Simmonds is finally healthy now and can play a role similar to what Maroon did for Tampa. Anything more than that would be gravy.

That line would be the slowest in the NHL.

His family moved to Ontario in 2005, so he would have been 13 or 14. He went to Windsor in 2007 and has been away from home during the hockey season ever since.
Also, at least early in their careers, I thought Eberle and him shared a house in Calgary during the off-season, but I could be wrong on that.

Tanev is absolutely one of the best defensive defencemen in the league and would be a great pickup for Calgary.

We said the same thing about Hamonic when we got him. For being one of the best defensive defencemen in the league, while he was on the ice the opposition scored 56% of the goal during 5v5 play. That's not good. I won't be happy with a Tanev signing, but would of course be happy to be surprised.

Eberle definitely used to live here in the off-season; I used to work at a furniture store that he and his girlfriend (wife?) shopped at a lot.

He very recently bought a house in the deep SE.

You have just under 17 mil to fill 8 spots on the roster. How do you get 3 of them? Even if you filled 6 spots with 1 mil players, that leaves enough for maybe Brodie and Markstrom.

If Dube can't outplay Lucic and/or Simmonds for a top 9 spot, maybe the Flames aren't the appropriate target for the blame.

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
If Simmonds were to sign in Calgary I could see him push Lucic to the 4L and take that 3RW spot. Dube moves to the LW and Bennett stays at C on that line.

We've seen this team play veterans ahead of younger players for no actual reason.
Hopefully those days are done with Ward.

Yeah, like I said - if we sign some of these players, it opens up trade opportunities for us.

Sometimes it doesn't matter how well a player performs. Some coaches just have their preferences and will roll that player regardless of how badly they suck. We've seen it for years in Calgary.
Just say no to Simmonds. The game has passed him by. Even if he came at league minimum I would still be hesitant to want him.

Sorry I can't find the link. So take those numbers with a grain of salt.
|
That was possible tax shelters to get players to the same level as American players, and just their base salary. The US has way more shelters available for players than in Canada, so even with those Canadian benefits, the American teams have an unfair advantage.
