Arizona is asking for Hoglander, Podkolzin or Demko. Canucks have said no, maybe you can have Kole Lind. A bad bottom six contract is going back to Arizona. Virtanen is also likely going. And picks are involved, the type of picks depending on what prospect the Canucks send to Arizona. So expect a 1st and/or 2nd rounder when they only get Kole Lind.

Or replace first with one of those prospects and add a second or third

It is a premium player and to take on a bad contract in return.

If it's Eriksson, Virtanen, Lind and a 1st, I think that's... okay.

The trade it self isn't the problem. It's that there is nothing about cap retention by Arizona. It's OEL's play in 4 years and what his contract will do to us.

You hope in 4 years the cap rises enough to not worry too much.

Thats my worry.

If they're smart they bet on Demko. You need to bet on rookie contracts to let you fill out other areas to go on a run. And he showed it. It is worth the risk.

Also there is no way they keep them both.

In all seriousness, the team is supposed to be opening it's window now. Any players drafted from here on out are unlikely to play a huge role in that window. We have players in our system that will be cycled in and should be NHL calibre players to keep our cap from getting out of hand. Aslong as we don't do a Pittsburgh and trade every single one, we'll be fine.

When was OEL's self-imposed deadline? Wss it tonight at midnight, or tomorrow before free-agency opens?

I guess since it was self-imposed, he can always change his mind.

Knowing very little about him beyond his stats, does he bring much more than we would get from existing players in our system already? We need to keep in mind that every Hirose has its thorn.

What tune? My tune about losing Markstrom? I'd be ecstatic if Markstrom stayed. I'd love to reward him in Vancouver with some winning seasons. But I am not going to be petrified if he leaves. I legitimately believe Demko is the real deal.

My tune on Demko? If we trade him we are going to hate playing against him.


My tune on OEL? I'll be lying if I won't be a little bit giddy even though I am not the biggest fan of the player. There is no doubting his contract will end up an anchor before it's done though.

He signed with Detroit today along with Adam Erne.
