Ugh, based on what exactly?
Free agency starts TOMORROW, not yesterday, not today.
This is an unprecedented off season where almost all teams are in a salary crunch. Not cap crunch, salary. There will be a typical first day mayhem of some big names landing for big contracts, and then there's going to be a collective breath around the league as teams work to fill out a roster/lineup.
Guarantees for the Flames:
- we'll sign a goalie, or trade for one. Because we only have 1 unless they count on Zag or Parsons to play backup to Rittich. This may not be a big fish (Markstrom), it could be a mid level guy, it could be someone nobody's thought of because all other teams have to adjust their rosters still too.
- we'll sign one or two defensemen, or trade for a couple.
- we'll sign one or two wingers, or trade for a couple.
The only potential curveball is maybe we do a re-tool this year. Just because the 2020 draft wasn't involved in doing so doesn't rule it out, not even close. I'd say the list of safe players who won't be traded can be counted on one hand. There are many directions the Flames can go, and that won't be set until late December presuming a Jan 1 start of next season.

Scoring Winger

I thought it was a for sure until I just read above his parents live in Ontario. I've lost hope, why return to Calgary if your family isn't there anymore. Obviously there are good reasons why one would like too, just that the chatter was he wants to go back to Calgary becasue he's from there. Usually that's the pull of family.

I’ve been informed by a source close to the situation that Taylor Hall to the Colorado Avalanche on a short-term deal is being finalized. Will be announced in the coming days.

well considering he isn't a free agent yet, unless the Yotes have allowed teams to start talking to Hall, this would be tampering.

We need more goalies on the market.
Vegas needs to feel the cost of dumping Fleury. Better yet, force them to cut salary elsewhere.

If the Yotes were allowing teams to talk to Hall, I am sure the mainstream insiders would have already picked it up.

Oh that makes sense, so I've been annoyed about no news over the last hour for nothing.

I think there will be a lot of avenues for the Flames other than signing Hall. Maybe this is by trade instead of signing big UFAs. Flames are one of the teams without a cap crunch, so there could be some opportunities to add a nice piece. Like we could fit Eichel or Stamkos if those players become available. (just as an example)

Yeah, if he is comfortable with a short term contract, it makes sense for Hall to seriously consider the Aves. They are in their window, and have the cap space till MacKinnon's contract comes up for renewal.

No, no it isn't. Hall's camp has made it clear he will take his time deciding on who he signs with.

I actually predict he does sign there.
But the only thing that could be "imminent" today would be trading his rights.
Which of course is still something that could happen, but unless you're ready to tack on the 8th year in your offer, why bother today when you could wait until tomorrow.

This day and age couldn't it just be a family or friend that leaks info and someone picks it up.

Even if a team is able to trade for his rights, they cannot offer him an 8th year on his contract. I believe he needs to be on the roster on the previous year's trade deadline to be eligible for the 8th year.
